I have it from a reliable source that Swervedriver held at least one recording session at a studio whilst on the US tour.

I don't have any other information other than it happened in the west and was sans-Jez. Jez was reported to be temporarily incapacitated and unable to attend.

There may have been more information but I'm not clear on it. I think my mind protected my body from the shock of such news by closing down.

Begin the exciting speculation and agonizing anticipation.

Hmm, between exciting speculation and agonizing anticipation I'm going to have to say that right now agony is winning out. I have no idea what this means. Maybe they were trying to get down a few ideas on tape. Some bands come up with song ideas during soundchecks so maybe they did that. There's no way of knowing though now it's going to drive me crazy. Brad, you're the man, as always thanks for the info. Just when the board was startign to die down again after the flurry of postings surrounding the tour hahah.

I want a new album as much as anyone and I don't want to be a killjoy but one day in a studio does not make an album.......a month in the studio maybe.

I agree with mpavlic08. A drummerless album from a studio 'step in' is dangerously wishful thinking. I'm preparing for some waiting for news agony and so far it feels alright.

That's all I'm saying. Getting your hopes up for a full album based off of that is setting yourself up for a letdown. Though now if they went in at every stop, that might be something. Or if as I was saying before they just wanted to lay down ideas to come back to later, that could be good news. Another thought, Adam might have had the guys play on a track for his new solo CD? Just a thought....

Whatever. One day in a studio without the drummer CLEARLY means they recorded a whole LP.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I just got full detail so I can end the agony. I must say I'm excited about the potential of this project A) to be cool and B) to see release.

Here it goes:

Swervedriver were invited over to the Dandy Warhols' Odditorium studio
space in Portland to take part in a project they have going on called
Breathe Easy.

They basically have been grabbing bands that come through town to hang
out and record at their studio. Other bands and artists then come in
and build up the same tunes, as well as starting up completely new
ones. So we heard J Mascis playing on a track with the Black Angels,
and then Sune from the Raveonettes appears on a track with the Kooks
etc etc.

They have a camera crew on hand and the idea is to either get it
commissioned as a TV show or do a MySpace/YouTube thing with the
ultimate aim of raising money for the 3 Rivers Land Conservancy which
is a conservation trust in Oregon.

So myself, Jimmy and Steve headed on over there the day after our
Portland show. A totally amazing space kinda based on Warhol's Factory
I guess, with a control room, kitchens, offices and side-rooms all
with cool art and books and instruments dotted about, and a live room
the size of a basketball court with a full stage set-up and tons more
gear and artefacts everywhere.

The Dandys served us cups of tea and beer and said they had 2 or 3
backing tracks they wanted us to hear and played us the first tune
which had cool bass and drums, some squiggly keys and a girl singing
on top. We immediately thought it sounded groovy enough so me and Jim
put electric guitars on top and Steve rocked an acoustic.

Then we recorded a couple of improvised pieces with Elliott, the
Dandys' engineer behind the kit. Turns out Elliott is a great drummer
and a big Swervie fan so he was pretty happy to be playing in the
band.

We played the Love The Way It Starts/Hate The Way It Ends two chord
jam and then played an extended breakdown of the very end of Kill The
Superheroes. At the end we laid some reverse analog keys on top of the
whole thing and it sounded supercool.

Funny thing is we asked who the rhythm section was on the first thing
we played on, and it turns out it's the Bravery. so there is now a
track in existence that has the Bravery's rhythm section with
Swervedriver's guitars on top!

Bands unite - people unite! The way of the future...all we need to do now is work on the problem of publishing music in the digital age. (This matter could use a whole new thread) I suppose its no problem really if you want to record it and give it away to nip the 'whole download it for free' capabilities going on.

Its great to see Andy Warhol's idea of the factory extended into our age. Creativity like this is allows collaboration and ideas to gush out. Well done Dandy's I say! How cool to be successful but still make art the priority. Id like to see these Youtube bits asap please!

This sounds cool. I've seen footage of the Odditorium in the bonus material from the Dig! DVD, and it looks awesome.

It reminds me of when Mercury Rev's ejected singer David Baker put together an album utilizing various musicians from the UK and US, and Adam ended up playing on a couple tracks with members of Th Faith Healers and I'm not sure who else.

This project reminds me of the one that Ken Andrews of Failure/On fame had going w/"Los Angeles Digital Noise Academy." Huge number of cameos and all of them contributing ideas via FTP server. This project does have a myspace w/2 trax on it i believe. Pretty Interesting I say.

But back to the program, The bravery? sounds interesting. Hope it sees daylight!!!

I knew it. I predicted this situation as soon as the reunion news was out. It doesn't surprise me in the least that Swervedriver would do some recordings. In fact why not expect that they would. They know they have intrested fans so why not?

I have reason to believe that there will be more tours, solo albums, side projects, and studio goodies from the lads as long as they keep kicking. Adam is a natural artist and he's not going to give up his passion any time soon.

We ride the warp of space into the womb of night.

That album is called "World" and was put out under the name Shady. It is a really great record, especially if you like the early Mercury Rev albums.
