Ken Andrews new solo album was digitally released today! Hooray!

"Up or Down" - Ken Andrews

It's still a shame that his wife (Charlotte Martin) is gonna end up much more well known than he is.

jeronimo, i'll quietly admit i was a big prog-head as a teen, but it's not something i'm proud of anymore. it certainly didn't get me much laid. by "much", i mean "at all."

today's tune:
lily's - "leo ryan (our pharaoh's slave)"
[the most 'prog' indie-pop song i've heard] :)

Hmmm ... my grunge/punk adolescence didn't get me laid either, so I moved to shoegaze. Still nothing. Guess I should've gone the Al Green, Barry White, Marvin Gaye route.

"Let's Get It On" - Marvin Gaye

Dude, if you haven't already, check out the Marvin Gaye album "Here, My Dear." Easily my favorite! And a amazing stoner album to boot, at least I used to think so when I used to do that sort of thing. Sorry, just had to chirp in.

Yes, Barry White will get you laid...everytime..guaranteed. White girlz especially just melt when they hear that big BEAR of a a voice.

Can't Get Enough of Your Love Baby-Barry White; today's pick. Actually my girlfriend brought it over the other night, we did inhale something greeeeeen, and then made "sweet, sweet love". Brooks, I think you're on to something there....

gotta great Al Green story. Friend of mine is a recording engineer in NYC. Al arrived to do a session and one of the other engineers asked after his first take, if he'd like to do another. Al, slipped on his hat, and started for the door saying, "Al is done for today, Al is done". Translated, meaning "fuck off, you white punk, don't you know perfection when you hear it?".

Hey Moen - I like that French Kicks disk = good stuff.

and o.k. o.k. - we've already moved on from our fleeting fancy for Anchorhead...

This sounds good:
The story of the Sea
(They are playing a show with Riddle of Steel in St. Louis soon and the Life and Times here in K.C. on March 2!)

2 Rocket posts within one week!!!! Good to see you around again!

How about Sodomy Bulldozer? Always thought that had a certain ring to it. Afro-Tomic-Velvis was another one. Short for Afro Atomic Velvet Elvis. Both were names of pick up bands I played in back in college. Free for your use if you like!

Concert By The Sea is a great album. I actually don't think I have any Cecil Taylor albums!

What is wrong with me?

My song of the afternoon:

"I'm The Man" - Joe Jackson Band

I never would have had any interrest in JJ but my wife is a die hard JJ fan and basically has forced me to listen to all things Joe Jackson over the years. Seen him live 3x as well. Not a bad trade off when you consider all of the Swervedriver, Pixies, Stooges, etc., I've forced her to listen to! - All though she SHOULD like those bands!

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

you dudes rock for tossing out names...
I'll bring them all to the table tomorrow when we get together.

Today...
The Golden Republic - "You Almost Had It"
It's one of the tracks on the Homegrown 2 CD collection of K.C. bands that I put together for my fellow WABers that I can't seem to get out the door...
but, I will.

btw - is anyone else as dissapointed with the new Sparta disk as I am? Some of it is good - but, what's up with the "I wish I were Bono" complex?...
grrrrrooooaaaaaaannnnn

H.R. is brilliant, intense and just a tad deranged. Balls of steel to have lived the life he lived, especially when they were startin' out. Forget the name of the book that he wrote about that. My brother is an HR freak. And...he's from DC originally.

Here's another DC guy,(poured me a coffee at a coffee house he owns near here). Americana stuff, very, very good.

Make sure you see the American Hardcore documentary. Its completely fucking brilliant and the mighty B Brains are well covered in it.

Indeed. Im still letting it sink in. Robot Hive Exodus was pretty good. Today Im listening to the Passive Restraints EP on Loper's recommendation. Sounds very Strap It On-ish (Helmet, for those that didnt know....shame on you), so you know Im digging it.

Today...
Cave In - "Screaming In Your Sleep"
off - Perfect Pitch Black

It was Hayseed that introduced me to these guys with a track called "Prognosis". Great song!

Perfect Pitch Black is pretty good - except imo half of the tracks are completely ruined with this crappy death metal shouting going back and forth between the other really good vocals...
too bad.

Today...
Walter Alias - "Examples of the Cataclysmic"
off - Examples of the Cataclysmic

They're a fairly recent K.C. band addition...
just got their debut today!
muy bien!!
It's a bit pop - I'd put it in the arena of the first Stills disk:
meaning it is poppy and catchy but, there is enough edge and song structure interest to make it highly enjoyable.
