Blondie vs. Doors. Its sort of A Danger Mouse Beatles white album/JZ's Black album mash up of Rapture w/ Riders on the storm. Its kind of groovy.

Ive just been reintroduced to a CD I havent listened to in about 6 years, Karma To Burn's self titled debut. So for today it's:

Patty Hearst's Closet Mantra - Karma To Burn

Rocket, I think youre wrong about Meltdown. I wasnt crazy about it at first but after listening to it for a while, It grew on me. Give it a chance. Ash are a good band.

If life is but a dream, wake me.

I'll try it a few more times Hayseed. But, it's not looking good at the moment. I know they are a great band - but, seems like they took a step - more like full dive in - to a lame sound full of booooring guitar cheese riffs...
but, how do I say that without you taking it personally? - please don't - it's just my meaningless opinion...

Today...
Ambulance LTD. - "Stay Tuned"

Yeah, just got into XTC in the last couple of years. Always remember 'Senses Working Overtime' being in the charts when I was 5 or something and it really did something to me but never got round to properly having a lesson. Wish I'd did it years ago.

Yeah its been a Gerling weekend for me. Love the new LP. Gator is the standout single but im becoming friends with it all rather quickly.

Right now, its:
Gerling - Turning The Screws

Also picked up the new Foo. Nice slow disc there.

I gotta admit - there is something likeable about "Meltdown" by Ash...
I just wish I could have heard it with a different guitar sound and better song intro riffs - the songs usually work themselves out into something interesting - but, those beginning riffs - uuuughhhh...
it actually kind of reminds me of Phaseshifter era Redd Kross - but, not as good...

Mate, I bought an Ash lp from a bargain bin a few years back called Intergalatic Sonic 7"s and arent much of a fan either *cues it again*

Today

Bob Marley
His 3 LP's - Onya Scott In Maine

I reakon it would be even funnier if I knew more about Maine, but its still very cool stuff. I have been tracking down some Oz comedy for ya and now have some Rodney Rude. Named for good reason, be warned!

Deep Purple - Highway Star,

I love that song. Haven't heard it in awhile. Thanks for that, Interloper. My song today also. Now I gotta go find it. When those guys were cookin' they were cookin'. One of the best rockin' bands of all time.

Tornado Alley-America is Waiting. Rediscovering these guys. Are they still intact? Austin based, I think. Shades of Jesus Lizard, singer is a little more coherent than David Yow (like who could match him anyhooo?). I think Boomer sent this a while back. Thanx, boss.

After about 5 tries of listening to Doves' Lost Souls Ive discovered what everyones been talking about.

Firesuite - What an amazing built up track!
Break Me Gently
Rise
Cedar Room, of course, one that prompted more listens in the first place
Reprise
A House - reminds me of something else, which is no bothering the hell outta me. WHAT IS IT?
These tracks have a real spatial quality, beauty!

The Eagles of Death Metal - Death by Sexy LP.

FINALLY! A band that plays real, actual rock and roll music. Who would've thought? This record kills. Better than the last one.

EODM is going to bust out this year. Count on it. Ive got a video clip of Speaking in Tounges from Conan a few years back. How can you not love a lead singer who actually speaks in tounges while youve got hot chick dancers in the background with mustaches? Oh yeah, and Josh Homme was drumming. I knew then that this band was going to be big. Of course they now have a full time drummer and Jessie "The Devil" Hughes is starting to step out of Homme's shadow. EODM is not a QOTSA side project anymore.

If life is but a dream, wake me.

I thought I would have heard of Autolux outside these circles by now, but not so far? Did I hear that they toured with QOTSA last year? Not that I care as long as they still make that kind of music in years to come.

Im going to buy EODM next trip to the city. Good wraps.

I sincerely hope they do indeed bust out. It would certainly be refreshing. Admittedly, I like barely any new music these days. I don't know what it is, but all just seems like it has far too much stuff mixed in the pot with it, and comes off kinda confused. It's all gotten so introspective, mature, and intelligent that the original intent seems to be completely gone. Rock music needs this for the same reasons it needed the Ramones in 77. There's been a lot of bands doing the rock purist thing for a while, but most of them are forgettable to me and seem so concerned with their tattoo/biker/badass imagery that the music really takes a back seat (and besides, there's only ONE Motorhead). EODM takes it right back to 57, where it really needs to go for a change. How the Strokes are gonna follow this with their denim, afro's, crooning, and dinky, timid songs is beyond me. (that's for you Rocket )

I could be way off, but I hereby predict an oncoming music trend.

Boomerang...were you in Banff for a conference? Love it there. I went to a Fine Arts school there for a couple of semesters, now called the Banff Centre. I wouldn't be accepted now. It is very prestigious. And it's both a beautiful setting and great town. I'm homesick. One of the places closest to my heart.

geno,

Yeah, my wife was there for the NF-kB Keystone meeting. It was in the conference center at the Fairmont Banff Springs, where we stayed (thanks, US taxpayers!). I didn't attend the meeting, so I got to explore with my oldest son who also tagged along. After a day or so, he figured out every nook and cranny in the castle; it was great having a guide to get me to breakfast and the pools and the conference center for wireless. We took a city/surroundings tour that went through the Banff center one morning. Spent one day at Lake Louise skiing. Pretty amazing place. The snow was melting, the lakes/streams were thawing. We did get about an inch of fresh snow last friday night, but it got above freezing every day.

I see how Banff inspires excellence in the arts.

Anybody know the name of that one? I just listened to it 3 times in a row.
