sweet track dude - they kind of sound like a funky Nada Surf or something? What's the rest of the disk like?

I have a few more songs by them - grabbed from the guy in the Flavivirus lab upstairs. The others are similar in sound but vocally they get very eclectic. I think you'd like them if you liked "The Human Face". Let me know if you want for me to express some tracks over to ya.

Eugene Benjamin - Song 45

A little of that Merzbow sound hey mate.. I like the build up after they static sounds to the end part, though was sort of hoping for a loud solo that launched into a big heavy rock song. But its real nice as it is the second and third times. Cant wait to hear you play in person buddy.

Thanks for the nice comments, Crozza, and Seed. Yeah, we'll jam out. Got my tix, now all I gotta do is pack my bag; wanna travel light. I'll take the baby guitar (my little travel guitar...it sounds excellent despite it's compactness).

Overkill-Colin James Hay (acoustic version). The voice...I am soooo there.. What a fucking gorgeous song. So great to hear it stripped to it's essence.

Also...Down Again by the Superjesus. Croz, ya' outdone yourself on this comp. That Sarah McLeod is foxus maximus and a great singer/guitarist. If they are playing live in Adelaide during my timeframe, get tix!!

So far this week it's been:

"The Winner Will be Buried Alive" - Traindodge
"Still Life" - Riddle of Steel, don't know why they didn't release this one...
All of Drunk Horse's latest - "In Tongues." 70's throwback with lots of prog!
"Hot and Cold" - Tom Collins
"4mo1" - Roma 79 - I've listened to this song a good 1,000 times in the past week.
"Mea Culpa" - The Life and Times
Annnd "Stolen" - Dropsonic

I just realized almost every current band I love comes from San Fran, The Midwest or Atlanta. Crazy shit!

MAN I love music (and rock) again.

Leave it to drmcd to keep this thread old school...

I just got my hands on "Reeling Through The Years" - Steely Dan. This was originally a bootleg off the board at the Record Plant for a live broadcast gig on KMET in Los Angeles on March 20, 1974. O mi dios does this thing smoke. It was "released" on CD in the early 90s but I think it got shut down. Sometimes shaky production, which only adds to the live ambience. You need a copy of this. It's so delicious.

That is an awesome boot! It also goes under the name "Live At The Record Plant." I think I have a couple of others from around that time that are decent too. I'm actually listening to Donald Fagen's new single right now "H Gang." Very nice. My favorite of the day.

D, I just checked, and I actually have quite a few Dan boots, mostly from 90's, but I do have 2 other 70's ones that are cool. Let me know if you need a hook up!

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Mr. Brooks, you're too kind. I'll definately check the 70s ones first. Let me know how to compensate you.

I saw SD a couple years ago at the United Center here in Chicago. Had a good time and was impressed with the sound despite the arena atmosphere. The band was super tight, and not patronizing the songs, either. It almost seemed to be Family Night or something, with the range of ages in the crowd. Good times... good times...

On another end of the spectrum - been diggin the strictly instrumental, metallic stylings of Pelican lately...

Today it's "Music for a Nurse" from Oceansize's "Everyone into Position". Just gorgeous. I'll just pretend that I don't realize it's ripped from that Album Leaf song "Window". And Crozarey-who tipped you off to Lusk? I love that album but almost no one has heard of it. Every time I listen to it I curse the fact that they never made another one.

That would be Moenkopi_46and2. Sounds like you might want to join the Weekend at Burnies thread group just.landed, have a read of page one and see what you think.

Oceansize is taking a fair bit of listening for me to get into them. I know lots of ppl think they are great, but so far not for me, yet.

Today
Brainiac - Hot Metal Dobermans

Interlopers first track on WAB 1.1 - for good reason. I love Brainiac!

Will do, Croz. Been on a Shudder to Think kick lately, I think due to both Wedren and Larson having new albums out that I picked up recently. Like their new stuff, but they need to bury the hatchet and get back to writing rock music together. Today's song is "Beauty Strike" from "50,000 B.C."

Psychotic Reaction- The Count Five

There was a period in the mid-60's around 66 to be exact when there was a cluster of these bands, kind of a blend of garage/psychedelia and you can even hear some early punk strains. They all had mop-tops, serious looks on their faces or frowns, dark clothes or paisley shirts. Guitars were clean, or cheezy fuzz boxes, poorly recorded drums, with an organ blended in there somewhere. Most of the singers sounded like their voices were slurred by a mixture of quaaludes and booze. I call it pre-Hendrix, 'cause after Jimi, everything changed. Bands included Count Five, Music Machine, Blues Magoos, the Standells, LOVE...and I really like hearing that stuff again.
In Montreal we had a group called the Haunted, that were in that vein. Still remember the smell and intense throat burn of my first joint.

I bought a CD the other day by a band called Mew and the CD is called 'And the glass handed kites'. (I don't know if they've been mentioned before, I think they're Scandinavian?). I bought it cause it had a single with J Mascis doing vocals that I thought sounded quite MBV-like. The album sounded more like Mercury Rev or something (who I don't really like) but I thought maybe people on here would be into it. Its starting to grow on me a bit anyway.

Yes it is! I almost love it as much as their last album. And that's a lot.

Today it's: Definite Door - The Posies, off Frosting on the Beater. No wait, scratch that... I've had every damn track on this album on repeat for two weeks. I haven't listened to an album this much since I got into Mezcal Head a good 6 years ago. And just like Mezcal, I totally dismissed this album when I heard it 4 years ago. I thought it was too 'sweet.' Gah I'm a fool.
