Rob Dickinson's solo effort isn't that great but its mature and from the heart.
Rob Dickinson-"The Storm" Here's to Rob and the rest of Catherine Wheel.
The Beatles- "You Can't Do That", "No Reply"
The Rolling Stones- "Brown Sugar"

I was sent a CD a little over a year ago from Sean Hoen of Leaving Rouge. I wound up putting a few of the songs on my last WAB. Bummer I never got to do a proper mailing of that last effort.
The band is Hawks and Snakes. I pulled that CD out last night and I remember why I plugged that band so much.
My real song for the day is:
Hawks and Snakes -"Her Cooling Jets" also "Explode is Free"
Anyone intrested in finding out a bit more on this Michigan band should visit the website for Leaving Rouge.(Another one of my faves)
Its worth the effort folks. |

"The Last Amethyst Deceiver" - by COIL, from "The Ape Of Naples"
They snuck this release out just in time to easily secure it as my top LP of 2005. An absolute hauntingly beautiful (and beatifully haunting) record, made even more eerie with Jhon Balance being dead just over a year now. This is COIL in top form. Amazing. |

Boy, Ive got a big problem. I know I'll probably get my "cool card" yanked for this one but I can deny it no longer. I came across a copy of Disturbed's new CD, Ten Thousand Fists, and I must admit, its pretty damn good. Im having a difficult time growing out of some of my metal roots and I positively cant stand the "screamo" and "metalcore" bands of today's scene. I like being able to understand the singer. The lead singer for Disturbed has that metal voice that I like. Of course, many consider "nu-metal" as the scourge of the Earth but I actually like some of it, escpecially when Im working out.
Call it a guilty pleasure but this album is fantastic. |

That sucks James..
Rocketmate, The Laybacks have only one ep with 4 tracks on it. I doubt you will find any in the US. I can send you the ep. I wish they were still active. I only found out about them after they had left the scene. I would be a loyal head in their crowd otherwise. Ill do some poking around and see if they have moved into other bands etc..
Today Ive been into the Weezer bonus lp witht he new edition on the blue album. Very cool. |

drive me to the hospital. something ain't right. between the weezing and that strange yellow goo.
the whole polaris CD as a result of buying the complete season 2 of pete & pete. lots of magnetic fields. syd straw is great in that. i just have to wonder who put that whole thing together. if you are stuck on the couch i recommend buying that so if the kids play it all day it's not complete torture.
favorite episode was when little pete ran into polaris playing in an ally and loved the song they were playing only to realize that he'll never hear it again. so he decided to get a guitar and play it for himself . his band included syd straw and marshal crenshaw. it was pretty funny. |

The Taste of Broken Glass - Traindodge.
Traindodge is kinda like throwing gang of four, jawbox and shiner in a blender, peppering over a little modest mouse, and then cranking the volume of the finished product to 10.
Somehow, however, I'm surprised I like them so much. |

Hayseed - hey dude - how'z the rest of the Mellow Drown disk? - I almost bought it yesterday...

And there was a "soft"... Soft "A tribute to Goo Goo Dolls"! ha ha - I doubt that was it! I didn't search anywhere else on the web 'cause I was usin Santa Amazon money... But, where did you find that?
Here's what I did buy: The M's Feersum Ennjin The Brother Kite Helio Sequence - Love and Distance Your Black Star Lowgold - Just Backward of Square
- I can't freakin wait!
Today... Guided By Voices - "motor away"

Pulled from the "Nifty Downloads" thread:
Ok so this band soft... something about them has got me good. They released a new single "higher" that can be downloaded at their site www.thebandsoft.com (if you sign up for the mailing list)
No full length release yet from these guys but I hope its as good as the songs from the EP. |

Queen Jane Approximately- Bob Dylan
I love the shuffling piano that carries the tune. It's not really a rhythm as whomevers playing it (Al Kooper)keeps improvising between the chords. Also, like a lot of other tracks on Highway 61 Revisited this tune defies the convention of verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus-fade. There's a distinct lack of bridges on the songs here so the they seem to keep flowing and building, and it can unpredictable at first as to where it's going to go. Lyrically the images are great but this is Dylan in top form here so that's no surprise, is it |
