That's funny, I've always been a closet Brooks fan! Brooks and Dunn, that is!

J/K! No need to defend the Dan... a staple in many listening diets, to be sure. And I'm the opposite of most folks - I dig the later SD stuff over the early, and I dig Gaucho over Aja.

But I dunno man... after 38 Chicago winters, "snow" is a four-letter word. I'm really starting to detest winter. I used to scoff at SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), but now I think it's very real. I would give my left nut to live somewhere warm, and not have to deal with the hassle and cabin fever. Maybe someone who's sick of hot, humid weather wants to trade places?

Actually, I do like toeing the line on cabin fever...

"No use callin cuz the sky is fallin
And Im gettin pretty near the end
A smoke-filled room in a corner basement
The situation must be right
A bag of goodies and a bottle of wine
Were gonna get it on right tonight"

Hey, I work in a world that's completely infiltrated by audiofiles and sound nerds. Needless to say, I've heard every second of every Steely Dan record ever. It gets a little tiring, but you have to admit, from a technical standpoint, they're some of the most high caliber recordings you'll ever hear. Donald Fagan's lyrics are generally all top notch as well in my book. Outside of that, they're pretty much what you listen to when you hit your midlife crises.

Got a few today:

Asleep in a Stereo Field - Voyager One

Baby Bird - Riddle of Steel. This song won't leave my head! Ah! That's a good thing though...

Roma 79 - The Great Dying - The whole album. Album of the year for me.

Swervedriver - Year of the Girl

Oh it feels good to listen to music that makes you remember why you love music in the first place!

Knievel - Steep Hill Climb

I dunno about Rubber Man being a GBV track Loper, the chorus goes:

I bend Baby
I dont break
Im a Rubber Man

Animal Johnson are a local duo that dont even have a website. Theres no mention of it being a cover on the cd cover. You will be an Animal Lover though, you wait.

Zed - I got Roma 79 on your recommendation. Is gut ya!

Whoa! That was going to be entry for today as well. I listened to the entire album going to work this morning (rush hour is good for something) and that was the track that stuck out in my head.

Great minds and all that jazz.

Hayseed - Great minds indeed :)

Croz - Glad yer diggin Roma 79! They're quite nice.

James - I know you didn't ask me, but I think 'Delaware' is the one to get. I have an unreleased album of their's called 'Mayfield' on my comp which is phenomenal too. 'National Coma' was really good as well, but it was completely different than Delaware. Real Pixies-ish.

Song of the day... Hmm..

Pale Saints - Baby Maker, off of 'In Ribbons.'

Man I love that album.

Zed, thanks. Figures, Delaware is like 14.00 on amazon used and the others are like .99. That says something.

I wish I had the time for getting in on those comps... but I don't. I have just a tinge of envy ; )

yeah james - "Delaware" is really cool. I was curious about them for a long time too - had them on my "want list" forever. Em hooked me up sometime last year...
I'd offer a trade - but, I've been having trouble keeping up with those lately... we still could if you can be patient with me?

Local San Diego band from 1991.

I also remember...The Barking Spiders, Psychotic Waltz, Rocket From The Crypt

Van Halen- "D.O.A."
Nektar- "Tab In The Ocean"
Alan White- "Giddy", "Silly Woman" "Marching Into a Bottle"
Kings X- "Summerland", "Pleiades"

James Gang- "Got No Time For Trouble", "Ride The Wind"
John Prine- "Often Is A Word I Seldom Use" "Please Don't Bury Me"
Arlo Guthrie-"Somebody Turn On The Light"
Woody Guthrie-"1913 Massacre'" -The true and tragic story of 73 children killed during a copper strike in Calumet, Michigan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
W.A.S.P.- "The Torture Never Stops"
Dokken- "Tooth and Nail"
Krokus- "Head Hunter"

So, the lopermeister is getting a dose of Steely Dan.

What I find funny is that Steely Dan is slotted into classic rock stations or even "oldies" stations. Idiots!!! I'm sure a few here have heard of A.O.R. (Album Oriented Rock/Radio) Believe it or not there is more than enough artists to have A.O.R stations so those artists can get some airplay and newer acts can have more room on "classic rock stations" so we don't have to hear "Old time rock and Roll" for the 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 time!!!!!!

Some A.O.R bands-
Ambrosia, 707, Chilliwack, Spys, Steely Dan, New England,Ace,The Sherbs, England Dan and John Ford,E.L.O.,Styx,Dire Straits,Heart,Journey,Rush,Survivor,Toto,Queen,Moody Blues,Queen,REO Speedwagon,Eagles,Bob Seger, Little River Band,

Today...
Love In Reverse - "Blueprint For A Possible Song"
off - I Was Here

So...
I find myself listening to a TON of new music - or I go back and listen to oldies... but, I have a ton of CD's that came out in between that are sort of semi-archived and just fall into a musical black hole of time that I never revisit. It's kind of weird. So, today pulled a few out of the black hole - like Love in Reverse, Green Apple Quick Step, and the Honeyrods. Let's see if I still like any of them...

Im looking, Rocket.

I found out about them through a compliation disc called The Fuzzy Ball : Northwest Shoegazer Bliss vol 3 . It has a bunch of bands from the Portland and Seattle areas. Voyager One is one the better known groups on the disc. It is absolutely awesome. Im looking for the other volumes as well.
