Deerhoof

Man, what a great band. I'd love it if they had a different singer, but the music is incredibly good. The recordings themselves are equally as stunning to me. Sounds extremely warm and analog to me. The drum sounds, bass and guitars are all absolutely stellar.

Anyone hip to these guys?

I'm all about the Autolux show. Jamesg, you got time to shoot it to me too? My email from the WAB list is good. I'll love you forever, no matter how horrific that sounds.

Calexico - Not Even Stevie Nicks

with a head like a vulture
and heart full of hornets
he drives off the cliff
and into the blue
not even the priestess
with her wrenches and
secret powers
could save (steer) him
from danger for a little while
not even she could save him

http://www.archive.org/download/calexico2003-04-25.flac16/d1/calexico2003-04-25d108.flac

This is buzzing me out. Maybe his SWD cassette got chewed up and caused this scenario?

Flaming Heart = it was on the bonus 7" that came with my Creation copy of ESR when it came out. Plan 7 Star Satellite 10 (the sorta instrumental loop thing with the femme vox SWD used to play before shows) is on it too. I think they show up as tracks on the ESR CD too - I forget why, but on the MiniDisc copy of the CD I made ages ago, there's about 90 seconds of silence after "The Birds", then the two bonus tracks, so I guess it's possible to not know they're there. Maybe revisit a CD copy of ESR tonight if you have one? You might find a surprise...

I'm sure someone else can confirm this before I can report back on Monday...

Right drmcd, I know the song now. Feeling a little 'duh' too.
I just know them as the 2 bonus tracks on ESR. Funny I've heard that Star/Satellite title of the instrumental loop before, but I honestly can't remember hearing a name for that track. Probably read it a long long time ago & it just never registered. It is one of the top tracks on ESR too IMHO. Thanks for setting me straight dude.

Airiel's version of 'Blowin Cool.' Holy cow, has anyone heard this? It's... different. And the lyrics are different too. But strangely, and much to my surprise, I completely dig it.

I haven't heard that cover, but I've heard the medicine cover (for "never click") by echo orbiter from that same compilation.

do you own the "never lose that feeling #1" CD, Zedhead?
looks like an interesting enough track-list.
a band called "the feeling good conspiracy" does a version of "son of mustang ford".

Em, Zed, that is one cool compilation. Im really enjoying their interpretations from the 90s. I reakon the Blowin Cool cover is better than the SOMF one. The Curve cover is todays favourite though, again. Bloody awesome.

We got hit with the snow here in Boston today too.I was the only one foolish enough to come in to work today (actually it's really not that bad here). But then again the battery in my MP3 player just died, so I may cut out early after all!

For me, when it snows it's Steely Dan. That's right Steely Dan. Tease if you like, I can take it! :) I've always been a closet Dan fan!

So today:
Rose Darling - Steely Dan, off of Katy Lied.

But for most of the week it has been 'Love is the new feel awful," off of the new Dandy Warhol's album. Probably the best track on the album. The rest of it is kind of spotty to me.

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

So when the snow blankets the landscapes in your towns life continues as normal right? 'cept maybe a little more annoying with dealing with the weather?

Its so sad around my area when it snows even 2-3 inches people freak out and start running to the store for staple foods.

I think people are pretty used to the snow here in the Boston area. Some people freak out, but life continues.

When I lived on Nantucket Island however, people would not know what to do! 2 inches was enough to cancel school for crying out loud! They would close down Main St. in town so the kids could sled down it! It was amazing!

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Im still learning to deal with the snow. I grew up in Florida and have been stationed there and in Italy. However, this is my third winter up here and Im learning to deal with it. For instance, last night I realized it was best to just stay home, light up the fireplace and make a big old pot of chili and down some winter brew. When I woke up, the streets had been cleaned and other than about a 20 minute dust off of the old truck, it was business as usual.

Favorite song today:

How Soon Is Now? - Quicksand (originally by the Smiths)

Awesome song!

Isn't Rubber Man a GBV song?
