Hey lope - been a while...

yo Hayseed - that Kasabian is pretty cool eh? It sounds like a total mix of Happy Mondays and Verve...

Today...
the string and return - "Anthelia"
off - what cheer

www.thestringandreturn.com

these guys kind of remind me of a mix of tHe drop (Iceland) and Nada Surf (Let Go). Only - much more mellow for the most part. However - every song builds into some very cool guitar jams and the drumming is excellent - it just takes a while to get there... a bit too long imo. But, there are a few gems on the CD.

Picked up a used copy of Obscured By Clouds - Pink Floyd today. Had a copy in Jr. High School, but it vanished by college.

So today it's "wot's...uh the deal," with "mudmen," as a close second.

Today,
Alaska! - The Fury Of Trees.

Tried to listen to The Go Team! this morning but its rubbish IMHO. So it was a pleasure to get back on the rock wagon to Alaska this arvo. Both bands with an exclaimation nark in their name. Coincidence.

"Blue Collar Love" and "Wake Up Early" by Starflyer 59 off Silver and I Am The Portugeuse Blues, respectively.

edit: Maybe we could dedicate page 59 exclusively to Starflyer 59. Or not. I guess it's too late.

nice ones.
I was in a record shop last week, and was surprised to see that "silver" and "gold" had been reissued as deluxe versions including the "she's the queen ep" and "le vainqueur ep", respectively.
too bad they added the artwork to the front, though. they were quite nice as they were originally...simple and self-explanatory.

you SF59-loving lot need to hear the "plugged" (live) release.
I might have to at least include a little something on a future WAB.

Actually 'Blowin' Cool', 'You Find It Everywhere' & that track I think are great precursors to ESR, and you're right drmcd, any/all should get more mention.

OK Boomer, in honour of pg59 I'll pick these SF59 tunes...
'Hazel Would' off Silver &
'Duel Overhead Cam' off Gold

This morning...

"Cold Metal" - Iggy and the Stooges off Eugene's WAB vol 2 and
"Underneath" - SF59 off Hayseed's Mustang Sound WAB

because I'm breaking out the spudger and cracking open an few Al Powerbooks to upgrade the HDs. <sheesh. scary stuff, man.> *in my best Ren Höek voice*

"Duel Overhead Cam" gets stuck in my head every so often - great song. On Silver, I'm very partial to "2nd space song". There's not much to dislike with this band. Croz - you need to be set up. Does Yahoo! IM support file sending?

I think the reason that people don't mention specific tracks from Mezcal Head is because the whole thing is so damn good.

Fave song this morning: 'Elevator Song' - Dubstar.

OK today 'Black History Month' - Death From Above 1979, and 'Generation' - B.R.M.C. BTW, sucks if they've gone acoustic & drum-less on the next album
...and my SF59 track for now is 'The Dungeon' off Silver, thought I'd keep that going

Yeah I need a hook-up Boomer! Yahoo IM does allow file transfers. My ID is the same as here. WHats yours?

I have some mp3s from a band called Sci-Flyer from LPs 'Fair Weather Karma', 'Melt' and 'Pacific Union" - I thought initially you were all talking about these guys, but now i realise they are different. I like Sci-Flyer. Very sparse vocally but they use a lot of pedals to achieve their sound which ive always liked.

Today
Sci-flyer - Burn And Sell.

Hey Croz, definitely have to get you set up man. I've only got 3 of their albums & they're all great. Only technology I've got though is emailing mp3's or burning/mailing discs.
As for Sci-Flyer, I've never heard their stuff, though I've heard of the group for a while. I figure any band named after an SWD song about UFO's has gotta be good :)

Hey Croz - I finally got my CD in the mail from their live CD release gig. The night of the show - they gave out a promo - which I let my buddy keep... I had to wait for one in the mail. It totally rocks!

Euroboyz? Eurobois? Aren't they playing during happy hour at that Czech bar up on Western? You know, those guys with the white strap-on Jan Hammer keyboards and the Roland 808?

Croz: "Heaven" = same side. Dig the flange action on Keith

loper: Don't forget "Miss You". All told, late 70s Stones has turned out to be not all that bad... kinda biased here, as that was when I started picking up on drumming, and Charlie has been a major influence on me...

off this crazy disk that my wife bought for me that was put together by Urban Outfitters and Filter Magazine of all people - where all of the proceeds from the sale of this double CD go to the UICEF Tsunami Relief Fund. There is a bunch of great stuff on this double disk = a lot of previously unreleased tracks and live cuts. Bands like Magnet, Elbow, Death Cab for Cutie - and more...
