How would you compare or describe Project Skyward and Stellarscope? - I've never heard them - but, I'm always looking for great new bands...

hey, sorry it took so long to get back on this - i've been totally busy with other things lately - but to answer your question: actually Stellarscope are responsible for what i consider to be the quintissential "new-gaze" tune, "Something Delicious", which is on their Fingerpaint The Colour of Sound CD. In other words, Stellarscope is incredible. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for shoegaze made the old-fashioned way, with sqawling guitars, otherworldly vocals, etc. Something Delicious is on par with tunes like Drive Blind, Never Lose That Feeling, Only Shallow, etc - ie; shoegazer classics. As for Project Skyward, they were cool too, but I only caught part of their set because they played last and by that time I was kinda wasted and may or may not have wandered off with some old friends to smoke something other than a cigarette (and no, it wasn't crack!).

ha ha - thanks man. (I wonder how many bands I've missed for that exact same reason? - )
I'll check both bands.

Today...
Trail of Dead - "Caterwaul"
off - worlds apart
damn - I really love this CD. I got it... and then it got lost in a huge wave of new stuff - BUT, I checked it out again yesterday - and I still can't stop. It's blowin me away.

Ok so, I'm giving the new Foo another chance at the moment.

Well, anyone who has it, that one guitar at the end of 'Resolve'

Kinda Swervie-ish isn't it? Kinda Juggernaut Rides feeling... Well, at least I like to think so

My favorite song over the weekend was "Kissing in Secret" by Riddle of Steel off Croz WAB #2. Firmly entrentched in my head until this morning, whilst I listen to Rocket's Mezcal Feeling comp.

"Sea Song" by Doves is currently hypnotizing my slack-ass. I need to get to work! Too much great music!

I heart the WAB group!

Sea Song was the song that made me sit up and pay attention when i first heard that album, as i thought it bore more than a passing resemblence to Swervedriver.

Yeah, i guess. Catch the sun always reminded me of new order in a way cause there's a bit that sounds like a Peter Hook bassline. I got the new Doves a couple of weeks ago, its alright but not a patch on lost souls, or lost sides.

The Charlatans huh! Been an age since Ive heard anything by them. The last record I ever bought was by them but it got warped by the sun before i got to play it. I got caught up at the esplanade bar, what could I do?

Any chance of putting it on your next WAB hayseeder?

Hey interloper - The Methadrone files are in ogg vorbis format. I can play them with a variety of players (the new VLC is pretty choice), but I can't put them on my iPod (iTunes won't play them). The only link I could find for ogg conversion was a shareware program called Music Man that didn't work. I guess I could use the AudioHijack program, but I'll probably lose quality.

Anyone have any ideas how to import? I'm on a mac.

hey Boomer! Knock me over the head to get my attention if you figure that bad boy out - O.K.?

btw - so... it looks like Methodrone is their very first ep.
I should get more - all I have is the double disk "anthology" - which... those type of things usually don't ever pick my favorite tracks... BUT, I really love it!

Yeah, I like a little bit of each LP so far that I haven't already heard, but I'm really loving that Methodrone LP. They sound like a different band.

As far as conversion, I noticed the ogg format too. I had no problem converting to mp3 with my basic file conversion application. I can't remember the name of the software right now.

http://www.mp3-converter.com/mp3_converter_freeware.htm

This looks like it'll work and it's freeware. I dunno if it's for Mac though. Do some Google searches, you're bound to find something.

Alright - well I downloaded a program called SoundGrinder from versiontracker:

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23006

That let me run in demo mode to convert these things to aiff. (If you want to install the LAME mp3 encoder, there are instructions in the accompanying readme file). I converted them to aac via iTunes. yay.

Regardless of how good each band is, it's an amazing story about how stuff really goes down in the rock world. You basically have two really good friends who lead two seperate bands. Each leader kind of wants the traits that the other has and consequently, they wind up hating each other. One guy has all the talent, the other has the ability to deal with success, and it all gets rubbed in everyone's faces. (My favorite part is when the Dandy's want to do a photo shoot at the Jonestown house after a huge party...someone makes some sort of comment about "what..you guys want it to look like you know how to party like real rockers?"

Personally, I still think a lot of it was selectively edited to make so and so look worse than they may actually be but oh well. It's one of the best and most entertaining rock and roll documentaries that you'll ever see.

Wasn't that Floyd reunion great? Roger looked like he was having the time of his life. Ironic it is seeing as how he spent the last ten years trying to sue those guys.

It'll never happen, but I'd kill for a new record. Reunions are pretty boring to me for the most part cause all bands do is get together and play the old songs. I want new stuff. When Wire got back together recently, they didn't play a single old song, and all their new stuff is incredible.

sweet - dang - I don't have that one!
interesting... I see that is a 2004 release.
Some people love it and some fans are pretty upset about it?
one guy wrote:
"The material on this album was originally intended to be recorded and released in 1997 after the band's "Americana" album but before 1998's "Fashion Focus". Now, seven years after these songs were written, they are finally recorded and released on this album."
That's crazy.

Im sorry, but nothing beats "Old" from SF59. Underneath, Major Awards, Passenger, and Lights On are the best SF59 songs period in my opinion and theyre all from that album.

Unfortunately, I was very unimpressed with "Talking Voice vs Singing Voice". The really bad thing is Ken Andrews produced and mixed that disc. Guess Ken is human after all.
