| So, I personally think the new White Stripes LP sucks uncontrollably, but little dude is still all about recording to 2 inch 8 track, and that medium sounds just sounds sooooooooo good. I've been listening to it based on that alone, cause the songs are surely miserable. |

First time I listened to that autolux album it was like, meh... But then I started listening a little closer and then it just engulfed me. Gawd I love that record. Try 'Plantlife,' it sounds huge.

Yeah, don't mind me, form your own opinion. I think they're trying to branch out musically and are completely caught with the lack of ability to do it. Jack just can't write songs like that. But like I said, the recording itself sounds incredible. It's that 2 inch 8 track. John Fruciante records all his solo stuff like that too, he swears by it. |

I picked up the new Foos yesterday but I only got a chance to listen to some of the acoustic disk... kinda dissapointing so far. :( I went to pick up the new Secret Machines EP thingy but it wasn't in yet. Anybody got a copy of that? Any good? I need to get several things since I found out I'll be seeing kings of leon, secret machines, and helios sequence in august. Anybody got any recommendations of where to start with helios sequence? I've heard several of their tunes and loved them but never got an album. |

This morning on the train, I heard:
"Afterglow" - SWD "San Cristobal De Las Casas" - The Swirlies (Rocket WAB 1) "The Opposing Engineer Sleeps Alone" - New Radiant Storm King (Neon From Candlelight WAB 22/7) "Pharmaceutical Itch" - Possum Dixon (Moenkopi WAB Indie Rock Nonsense and Tomfoolerly) "Kissing in Secret" - Riddle of Steel (Crozarey WAB 2) "Cowboys Suck" - Hermano (Hayseed Mustang Sound WAB) "Strange Eyes" - Year of the Rabbit (Jeronimo's Petrol Visions WAB) "Some Song" - Some Artist (My WAB vol 6) "Slide Away" - The Verve (Trik WAB 1) "Feast of Blaze" - Killing Joke (Interloper WAB 3.2) "Waking the Dead" - Suicidal Tendencies
I love my iPod. And I'm the only person on the train that was happy when it broke down! |

jamesg, Try Love And Distance by The Helios Sequence. Its the only lp i have by them but its pretty descent. I love track one and two especially.
The Pale Saints are proving tricky to find Zedhead :(
The Autolux lp "Future Perfect" rewards a few close listens 10 fold. Turnstyle Blues is a feckin cracker.
Today, and most of the weekend, Ive been listening to my prizes, Ginger, Silver Ginger 5 and Juggernaught Rides.

I don't really know anything about this band... I imagine anyone who likes Cursive or Bright Eyes would really like them - except for the fact that they might sound too similar to both bands.

I went looking through my CD collection this weekend. I moved it into a lockable closet after I found my 2 yr old son throwing the cd cases on the ground and smashing them.., kids. Any way, I was in search of Dandy Warhol's Come Down, and I found Pale Saints Slow Buildings, didnt even remember I had that one.
So today I'm gonna listen to the Dandy Warhols Come Down all day. |

Leave Me Alone - Razorlight
I don't know much about this band but I like the album - almost a more complex version of The Strokes.
Stranger On A Train - Stormy Clouds by Verve is an awesome track. Verve's first album, A Storm in Heaven is actually one of my top 3 albums of all-time - still blows my mind every time I listen to it. |

Guys I have come across this awesome band. The guitar work is deluxe. The singer is pretty good but it doesnt matter coz the instrumentation is so good the vox arent really needed. Space Bar is the name.
So today, and the reat of the week will prolly be: Space Bar - Slow Down.
Keep your eyes out for them. They are fully sick, as my student would say! |

Space Bar, what label are they on? I cant find any links to them.
Verve were one of those bands I really liked in the early 90's. Then they got popular and I kind of left them alone.

There's no label my man - it's my band. It's a labor of love - probably won't pursue the whole label thing... There is a "Space Bar" - that you can find if you search on Google - I put a link in the Universal Meanderings thread back a few weeks ago... But, that Space Bar is not us - and we didn't know until then that there was another "Space Bar" so, we are trying to decide if we're needing to change our name. |

Hey Rocket - That song rocks!
Love the guitar - I was so expecting the vocals to sound like Adam that I was a little dissapointed. I'm sure that bias will dissolve after a few listens.
Thanks! And don't change your name - you could use a picture of a pub on the moon for your album art! |

Yes indeed - I'll be quizin all of you guys when we get our CD finished... especially on ways to get it out. don't worry dude - that's probably the last song he'll have recorded with us any way... we'll be re-recording the vocals on that, as well as the others that he's done. Besides turning out to ba a bit of an ass - he was not the ideal vocal sound for our songs. so, I'll be sending our tracks to Adam to add vocals very soon - I wish! yeah - I was kind of imagining some kind of martini glass with a rocket flying by or something, though the name is also based on the computer key board... |

I'm back to Amsterdam at the moment. Their debut album is out this week, although I haven't got it yet. Go to the downloads section of their website and download "Nostalgia" off it. Ignore the first download for "does this train..." You have to pay for that as it's the current single, but Nostalgias' free.

still on Dinosaur Jr, the intro to NEVER BOUGHT IT (track 3) is so Adam-ish (i wonder who influenced whom ? I seem to recall reading/hearing in an interview Adam saying Dinosaur Jr were an influence...)

Thinking of the Verve, I ventured back into my locked cd closet. After searching through about a thousand cases, I finally found it. The cd-ep that got me into the Verve.
Its a 3 song cd titled "All in the Mind". Its on a label Called Hut records. Made in England.
1. All in my Mind 2. One was to go 3. Man called Sun.
All in my Mind is a great dreamy song that kind of caught me by surprise, as I was really into punk rock at the time. Its a great little ep/cd. If you like the Verve and have never heard these songs, you should find them. |

So... I finally got to give British Sea Power a good listening.
It was very different than what I was expecting. I had heard "The Spirit of St. Louis" and really had a different idea of what I thought their sound would be. I read an article comparing BSP to David Bowie... I guess I can hear a very slight similarity vocal wise - very slight. To me the singer sounds more like the guy from Kithchens of Distinction only - not quite as on tune. Musically, they aren't much like KOD except possibly during some of their slower songs - BSP have much more of that sloppy hard sound than KOD.
Howerever - my songs of Today are... British Sea Power - "Childhood Memories" and "Heavenly Waters off - The Decline of British Sea Power (with extended tracks)
these 2 tracks really have that Kitchens of Distinction sound that I love so much - even the guitar / keyboards kind of sore in the background in a similar way on top of a nice picking main guitar riff. Overall, I think it's a pretty good CD. |

| I've got every EP and Album by Verve and know those tracks well stranger on a train - I agree, they rock. Early to mid 90's all I listened to were Verve, Swervedriver, Spiritualised and The Charlatans. On Verve's EPs and first album, Richard Ashcroft's voice was secondary to Nick McCabe's surreal and whirling guitar playing. Once Ashcroft's voice took centre stage and McCabe had a mental breakdown (may have something to do with Ashcroft stealing his girlfriend), it was all downhill for Verve. Their last album was crap and just reflected Ashcroft's commercial and super-stardom aspirations - a real shame. |
