Well, maybe since I'm only going to be able to get a single disc out in my next WAB, I'll send out a second disc with .mp3's of my favorites from the SxSW 2005 listings. I pulled 70 songs total, only about 250 MB. I guess I'm about 2 weeks away from finishing my next WAB disc, although it's getting harder to figure out what to put on it...

Been going through a little period recently where nothing seems to tickle my fancy.

But today Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits sent a shiver or two down my spine when I listened to it properly.

You're right there. One of my favorite books, and movies. A few years ago I made a detour on a road trip to Savannah just because of "Midnight." Beautifully little city, with lots of history. There's a pretty nice art school there as well.

Boomer, did you get the mp3's from the SXSW Secretly Canadian showcase? I haven't checked out which songs by those bands were available. One of my favorite labels.

I'm not sure - I know there is at least one Canadian Band in the group that I pulled. The link that I used to grab it no longer works, but it points to a site with .torrent information:

It's funny, non of the bands on Secretly Canadian (based in Bloomington, IN) are from Canada. Guess that's the secret.

Hmm i seem to have fucked up. Savvanah is close to Atlanta right? Charlotte is in florida right, Doh! *pulls another cone*

i have been listening to 78 Saab again

Like It Was Before, from the Hello Believers EP

where did you post this swsx listing boomer? can you post it to me please? If I need an iPod forget it.

Oh yeah i heard a funny radio skit about the iKnob, poked fun at quite a few of us types but i still had to smile. I think theres a market for big LCD's that display the track details that you are listening to while on your mp3 player. They could be wearable and so part of the fashion. "hey check out that bloke - hes cool 'cause hes listening to Built to Spill!" etc etc

i've got an internet connection, but very little work to do, so i frequent various messageboards for 8.5 hours a day whilst trying to look busy. But i'm going to get caught out soon i'm sure of it! (don't really care though, see pointless job thread) It's ok but it doesn't pay well!

I follow Glasgow Celtic and Peterborough Utd (no premiership team), I think Southampton have got a good chance of survival cause Harry Redknapp is a quality manger with a good track record at that level, but WBA have hit form as well, it like to see Palace stay up cause a good mate of mine supports them.

Bit off-topic eh?

Favourite Song today: Pearl Jam - Down (From Lost Dogs)

Maybe i'd better do some work now!

oh got ya. I never heard them called Glasgow celtic, just heard Glasgow Rangers a lot and assumed you followed them and Celtic aswell. Sorry dude.

My mum is from Edinburgh, got to get to Scotland one day. I support Hearts as my grandad does. An old neighbour played for Motherwell for a long time too. I know a little about the comp via them. And Irvine Welsh is a champ.

Methinks you two need more than a chatroom (just kidding). Croz, you need an American geography class. Savannah is on the Georgia coast, about 4 hours east from the ATL. CHarlotte is in North Carolina. I guess it's easy to mess up since all those states are colored red now on the big map of the USA.

I'll post a list of the sxsw bands that I got the mp3's from when I get to work.

"Lonesome Tonight" - New Order. They're coming through Chicago on May 3rd, and I just found out I got tix! I saw them here on the tour for "Low Life" in 1985... whoa, that's 20 years ago. I was a senior in high school. Freaky. It was hot as hell in the venue, and they had a lot of technical problems onstage with instruments, but they still rocked enough for me to remember it 20 years later...

I saw New Order back in high school too - probably around 87 or 88 - and I kind of think they played with P.I.L. - could that really be possible? I think it was when P.I.L. released "Happy" - but, I might be wrong...
I used to have all my ticket stubs - and at some point I accidentally through them all away - there went my memory...

Boom,

I really dig "Banquet" by Bloc Party and "Beautiful Night" by the Burden Brothers. I always wondered what happened to the Toadies lead singer. Unfortunately, he has one of the voices that will force whatever band he's in to sound like the Toadies. Which......isnt a bad thing I guess. I loved their albums.

Man its a good song anyway. JC is hot but i knew it when she was in that movie with John Cusack in the late 80's, early 90's. You might have needed the double ended dildo action to come to this conclusion hey rocketchops?

Todays and the weekends favourites have come from Moens WAB 3.1 especially the first 5 or so tracks, Bark Psychosis - Codename Dustsucker (perfect for making out on the couch with) and The Falling Joys - Wishlist "M.A.R.V.E.you know the rest"

Wow, talk about serendipitous...and I am just getting around to reading the book now. Saw the movie some years ago. I was suprised to learn it was written by Hubert Selby Jr, the same author who wrote Last Exit to Brooklyn. I knew the plot from the movie, and that helped, 'cause he writes in this unorthodox manner, without punctuation, run-on paragraphs (especially the dialogue, which makes it a little tough to follow). If you get the chance, rent the movie Last Exit to Brooklyn, it is also great.

Yeah Jennifer is a babe, and I think went on to other things. Jared Leto really impressed me with his acting skills, but he became sort of a one-hit wonder, and I don't think he did anything else that was too remarkable after that? (not sure).

Also the film-maker Darren Aronofsky, did another great film called Pi..don't know if you saw that. Very intense.

serendipitous indeed Eugene! cool. (let me know if the book provides any more closure for the ending - please)
and yeah - I've seen Jennifer in some other movies - but, she really struck me in this one - maybe because she was more natural looking?
I work with a woman that has seen her in "real life" in new york - said she is even more stunning in person - and very tall.
i'll check into both flicks...

Today...
Phaser - "Would You Believe?"
off - Sway
I'm lookin' forward to these guys putting out a new one...

Hey all!

Just relaxing with a nice bottle of wine waiting for the Red Sox game to begin, wife is out for dinner!

Favorite song tonight: PIXIES - something against you(live) - from Dec. 9, 2004, Boston Ma. They still sound fucking amazing!

Ahhh to completely contrast Brooks post, I'm having a cup of coffee and getting ready for work to begin. :(

On the ride to work this morning I popped in a compilation of Radiohead B-sides and rare tracks. I really really hope these guys will get back to writing songs the way they used to. Don't get me wrong I dig the newer stuff too (Kid a, amnesiac, hail to the theif) but their old stuff is much better for my earhole.

Lets rock Lope!!!

I feel that the new stuff even though its much different is still distinctly Radiohead. Can it be called progressive? Are they smoking crack? I don't know. The fact that I know they are experimenting with their sound to the max makes it tolerable for me but from listening to how great their earlier stuff is it bothers me that they are departing that sound so early.

Do you like the new stuff?

Hail to the Thief is the closest to their old sound in the last 3 disks - I totally love it.
Keeping that in mind - Their B-Sides are my favorite works out of all of their proper studio releases. I have 2 different B-Sides collections. One is a double disk collection with just a few different versions of released songs with the rest being B-Sides - and then also a single disk collection of B-Sides. Great stuff!

Here is my list in order:
1. B-Sides collections
2. The Bends
3. Hail to The Thief
4. Pablo Honey
5. Ok Computer
6. Amnesiac - "I Might Be Wrong" is possibly my favorite Radiohead song ever!
7. Kid A

I can't decide if Ok Computer should possibly go before Pablo Honey?
But, like I said I love them all - and it depends on my mood...

Today...
Radiohead - "I Might Be Wrong"
off - Amnesiac

Do you like the new stuff?

Yeah bro, Im a new Radiohead guy. I liked them before they turned for the "weirder", but to me, they turned into the band I kinda wanted them to turn into when they did that. The old stuff is good, but I just think it put them closer to too many other bands, whereas Kid A and beyond proves them to be in a class that no one else is even close to. They're pushing it just a bit and I really really like that (regardless of the fact that I think they're now dangerously kin to 70's Pink Floyd). I don't think you can put it down to something as simple as more keyboards and space invader effects, but the song structures and open air itself is why I like the newer stuff so much. It's beyond average pop/rock music, but not so far out that it's not enjoyable to me. They do however waste a lot of time on the recent lp's with what I would consider to be non song filler. That I don't really dig.

Pyramid song to me is still the freshest thing I've heard in a number of years.

Indeed. Something that is very cool to me is the fact that no matter how whacked out something sounds that they put down in the studio, they can match or do better live.
If you want to send me some blank dvd-r disks I can load you up with some great concerts from just about every tour.

Edit: I'll extend that offer to anyone who wants as well. I don't really have a list of all the stuff I have but I need to get it together anyway. Most everything came from my bandwidth hoarding addiction to STGs DVD trading forums.
