If you had a small bit of mick jagger and ran him head first into Bob Geldof... you'd get the lead singer from razorlight.

Can't say i've had any fav. songs of the day for a while because, well, i haven't been in much.

But lynyrd skynyrd - free bird had me rocking for a while the other night.

"Tessie" - Dropkick Murphys

What can I say? It's opening day for the world champion RED SOX!!!!!!!!
(In my 33 years of life, I've never been able to say that before!)

I'm with ya Brooks, Red Sox and the Cardinals are my teams (but I'm more of a Cards fan, so the World Series was bitter sweet,) and I hate the fucking spankees. A-Rod's a pud.

today......Safe European Home - The Clash, I watched Royal Tenenbaums Saturday, and one of the characters always had The Clash playing in the background, so they have been stuck in my head ever since. I think "Give 'Em Enough Rope," is my favorite Clash album. Anyone else?

Tough game to watch last night! The Sox looked a little dazed and confused, maybe they thought it was still spring trainning? Oh well, they blew last season's opener and that seemed to work out okay for them!

Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Baseball's started already? Well, I guess spring football practice has started in the college ranks. Must mean the NFL draft will be soon too.

"Bullets" by Creed. Don't laugh too hard. I don't like Creed (many reasons, God-band, alot of lame songs overplayed on the radio, etc) but the video for this song hooked me. I dunno. Maybe this falls in the category of songs I like that I should keep my trap shut about.

Also "The Spirit of Radio" by Catherine Wheel here:

that's a tough call about the Clash Brooks!
hmmm.... Give 'em Enough Rope is right up there for me...
- but, I'm thinkin' I'm going to have to say London Calling.
Guns of Brixton, Hateful, I'm Not Down... think I'll have to listen to it again sometime soon!

Judas Priest again (I hope there's no limit on using the same band in "favorite song today")

Electric Eye, Riding on the Wind, Heading out to the Highway, Metal Gods, Bloodstone, The Sinner, Devil's Child, Victim of Changes. . .what the hell, Living after Midnight too.

If you like Motorhead or Sabbath, get the Tuscon, AZ '83 show:

Now you know - The Bloodthirsty Lovers

The new record is very good, but this is one of the hottest tracks I've heard in ages. The recording doesn't sound nearly as good as it did last night live, but you all know how that goes.

Man how good are those live comps!

SWD - Never Lose That Feeling

But before that was more Ambulance LTD, this time track 6, Stay Where You Are, it just mowsies on for 2 minutes till the guitar pipes up then its so much like a dreamy version of the Gerling track called Fight Revolution Team. Beautiful stuff.

Too bad that this was the only good album they put out.

Today...
Sophia - "Oh My Love"
off - people are like seasons

this is a great CD - I just (finally) bought it. The mp3's that are available to download on the Sophia site hooked me - and so the disk finally made it from my "want" list to my "got it" list...
anyway - there are a few tunes with some distortion that are kind of heavy. The rest have an excellent sort of Beck "Mutations" - or mellow Sparklehorse sound... very haunting with some nice acoustic guitar...

WOW! How'd that one slip by me? Thanks for the heads up Seed. For most I'd say quitting Tool would be a huge mistake, but the music D'Amour comes up with is amazing, namely Lusk. Anyone not familiar with it, if you love Autolux and Helio Sequence get Lusk.

Yeah, I don't think it was the greatest of terms, but they've since made up a little. There's a lot of debate on who Eulogy is about, personally I think it's about Henry Rollins (apparantly there were some gambling debts from his tour with Tool.) I mean, Maynard was on the Replicants project and Danny Carey plays on a couple of the Lusk tunes, so I don't think they hate each other.

The song on Feersum Ennjin's website is amazing. Definitely my song of the day.

Just got out of the shower with Terra Diablo's "Can You Hear Them?" firmly entrenched in the head. Not sure why, but I'm not doing anything to force it out. Every once and a while, the chorus from "Death Defy" by Motor Ace joins in.

Yes, I'm a wierdo.

Part of the problem is that I HATE the end of "Can You Hear Them?", it makes me want to go back and listen to it all over again. That, and it's definitely not long enough. Terry? What about an extended dance mix?

2. Copper Blue
3. File Under: Easy Listening
- but, I love them all... and the list doesn't include "Black Sheets of Rain" and other solo work.

Today...
Sonic Youth - "New Hampshire"
off - Sonic Nurse

Hey forklift boy
I got a job for you
You might enjoy
I got a valley full of crates to destroy
And I know you ain't no Rock Star yet!

Grease and grime
Pull you under
Workin' overtime
And there ain't no room
For any reason in this rhyme, boy
So you just come on back tomorrow, when you're stupid!

You better make your hay when the sun shines
And livin' is free
And you better hold real tight
When you got nothin to be

Gee...

I guess I know why I'm here
I won't be on TV this year
So I'll throw my forklift into backwards gear
And fuck some shit up for you, yeah
For $5 an hour

Breakin the crates in the hot sun
Frustration
Accumulation
Makes demolition fun
In my propane powered factory Formula One
The workday is over
when the playtime has just begun

Cuz that bossman dude
He says he don't like my attitude
He says I can drive a forklift too, boy
And don't you ever forget it!!!

But wait
There's more
He's got another little chore in store
He wants me down and doin bathroom floors
And says, "clean those crusty old skidmarks off the toilet!"

Damn!
C'mon, man!
Why don't you gimme a break
Don't know how much more of this I can take
You make me wanna scream
You make me wanna shout
Yeah, well you can clean the shit off the door when it hits me on the ass on the way out! Alright! That's a big 10-4! C'mon, yea!

Bob Rising, "Forklift Boy" from his 2nd CD, "Plan B"

Bob is my old boy from high school, and whose resume includes Repulse Kava, Poster Children, Seam, Hardvark, Victory Bowl, Bob Rising & Scenario, Bob Rising & the Blisters, etc.

Maybe this should be in the "pointless job" thread?

James,

I think that JC Auto is the greatest Sugar song ever. For some reason, Im not as crazy about Copper Blue as I am about File Under: Easy Listening. I think its because it was my first Sugar album. I was much younger then and I associate those songs with some very good times from my past. I bought Copper Blue about a year ago and just havent made the connection.

Today its: PHUQ - The Wildhearts ( I know its an entire album but dammit its good )

If life is but a dream, wake me.

Well....most of the day today it has been:
Please Stand Up - British Sea Power

But tonight we made a nice grilled pizza in the backyard, with a great bottle or two, or three of wine, and The Dandy Warhols - Come Down has been the soundtrack ....Be-In is stuck in my head!

Friday - you lucky dog. They came here on a "school night". I should have quit acting like such an old geezer and sucked it up...
I heard Ambulance Ltd was great.
The girls I new who went didn't know anything about Autolux - but, they said it was so loud that it sounded way too muddy - couldn't really hear the vocals etc...
too bad if that was really the case.

what do you think of the Ravonettes? I just heard a song by them yesterday that sounded O.K....

Today's iPod commute standouts:

"Inkwell" - Aerogramme off Moenkopi's Well Preserved Morsels WAB
"The New Sunrise" - Joy Circuit off Hayseed's Mustang Sound WAB
"Cocaine Cowgirl" - Matt Mays and El Torpedo from the SXSW 2005 listing
"Behind The Scenes of the Sounds and the Times" off Juggernaut

At first I thought "Benhind the Scenes" was remastered or something, but it turns out there's a BIG difference in sound quality between 160 Kbps mp3 and 207 VBR mp3. Methinks it's time to re-rip all the SWD, MMH, and your WABs. I have an iTunes visualizer called "vTunes-Skyscraper" that shows a 3-D graphic equalizer - there is so much missing from tracks encoded with low bit rate mp3! All the low-end is gone! Very sad. File sizes? Who cares about file sizes? Just delete all those data files!

Oh, and it seems I missed Autolux with the Secret Machines at the 40 Watt in Athens last month. So many great bands pass up Atlanta and just stop there. Scott (almost) in Athens, you are moving to a music mecca in a sea of drunken college women. Enjoy, but don't hit the varsity too often or we'll have to change your forum name to "Scott in cardiac arrest".

I hear ya Boom. I think the 40 Watt and Cat's Cradle are the main reasons so many bands just skip Charlotte now. Most of the time if I want to see a band on a weekend and not a tuesday I have to make the trek. Granted I think Charlotte has went waay downhill as far as good venues goes.

I've never heard the Ravonettes but I guess if we do decide to go see them I'd better at least attempt to become familiar with a few songs. :)

Never posted my SOTD so in order to stay on topic I picked up Secret Machines CD this weekend. I had seen the video for "nowhere again" and dug it so I figured I'd take a chance. I haven't had a chance to get my head wrapped around the whole CD yet but parts of it surely have potential. I have no idea why so many people are comparing them to Floyd though but I guess my song for today is...

Secret Machines - nowhere again

Well, other than wine, women and song, there's really not anything going on there.

edit: ...Unless you like college sports. Good luck driving anywhere within 20 miles of the UGA campus on a home football saturday. The traffic starts 40 miles away in NE Atlanta on 316.

I put on "Where You Been?" earlier today for the first time in ages. I forgot how great "Out There" is, so that's my song of the day.

jameg, do you live there, Charlotte? I fell in love with it via reading Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil, back some 5 years now. Id like to visit it but if you reakon the place is losing its main drawcard - wild nightlife - then maybe i wont bother.

Wasn't "midnight in the garden.." set in Savannah, Georgia? The best time to go there is around St. Patty's.

edit: Song of the day:

"Do You Believe Me?" - The Julianna Theory
and
"Semaphore" - Jakob

Both from the SxSW listings.

Damn Boomer - you keep bringin up new stuff - it's great.
I STILL haven't really checked out the monster SXSW list you posted a few weeks back with all the killer links...

Today...
The Church - "see your lights"
off - forget yourself
I'm so glad all you guys got me re-inspired to dig out my old Church and get back into buying new Church stuff. Think I'll work on filling all my blank spots in the collection.
