Hey Sciflyer!
I love Highspire!
How would you compare or describe Project Skyward and Stellarscope? - I've never heard them - but, I'm always looking for great new bands...

Hey everyone - A guy I work with has a son in this band. I read the review and they sound very interesting...

http://CDBaby.com/cd/angelesdrake
or
http://www.angelesdrake.com/_/index2.htm

An absolute dream. And it's no coincidence. Angeles Drake soars with the best of them, plunging into the watery depths of signature Brit pop, including nods to Coldplay as well as echoes of the Doves and Radiohead, they find that cushy, padded little pocket of perfect malleable guitar texture, weave in a kind of distant but nuanced vocal quality and a gigantic composite swirl that leaves their listeners pleasantly stunned and taken aback. If you opt for pop you can fall backwards into, this is your pick.

has anyone else heard of these guys?

I cant stop listening to the new QOTSA album. I honestly think its the best they ever made. "Someone's in the Wolf" will be the best QOTSA song of all time, IMO. How can you not love a song with twigs snapping (or fire crackling, havent figured it out yet), wolves howling and some good ole sword sharpening?

If life is but a dream, wake me.

Speaking of sci-flyer I haven't heard the band yet... I know I must live in a cave right? Well pretty close to it anyway here in S.C.
I think I had some mp3s that I pulled from long ago but I can't recall them. So I'm surfing eBay this morning and found an auction for an EP and the first full lenth so I snagged it. Judging by everyones reviews here you can't go wrong.

Song(s) of the day for me - All the E tracks from Eugenalyptus' WAB
Bravo man. I'd really like to know how you got that nice ringing tone on Tigger's Tune. Its sounds nice and warm yet the brightness shines right through.

Yeah Moen, that whole first record with Regular John on it rules. Any Queens is good Queens. I love em cause they are a great, great rock band and very popular, which is in itself very rare these days. They also can be that good and not have to sound like every other boring band that's popular these days. They don't even sound 70's obsessed like most do (except for a smidge of Sabbath of course).

Today I'm shitting over the Link Wray bootleg I got from the last tour he did in the US.

A friend upstairs where I work pointed me to that song and it was a last minute addition to that disc. However, after I had burned the discs, I looked into the band more. I would be remiss if I didn't point you here:

where you can download more of their stuff.

Glad you liked the music, James, I'm very thankful for your nice compliments. All my Swervophiles have been kind, and I appreciate that a ton. OK, Tigger...First of all I played it on my Martin-D35, which has such a sweet tone anyways, it's hard to go wrong. I have a Martin Thinline pickup in the bridge, so it can be plugged in. I plugged into the board (little Boss BR 1180 unit...trusty little workhouse), and used just an Acoustic guitar "effects" pre-set they had. I think it has some EQ and a bit of chorus/delay. Das all. It is mainly (fuck the purists) solo, but I played over the last chorus with another track for depth effect, panned it hard L/R last stanza for that final chord. It is in drop D tuning. DADGBE.

Nirvana - Drain You

Remember how refreshing it was to hear this stuff at the top of the charts in 92? As much as has been said about em, I still love em and miss em putting out records. Hell, they're still better than most of the stuff people are into nowadays, even on an "indie" level.

Nevermind the fact that they were a complete Wipers rip off. Look em up. Kurt even looked like Greg Sage.

Drain You is great - especially that foreshadow of Endless Nameless towards the end. I was working at my college radio station in 1991 when Temple of the Dog, BadMotorFinger and Nevermind came out. Needless to say, they didn't help me get better than a "D" in Neurobiology. But they sure rocked the lab I was working in at the time....

D-7 is a Wipers cover, right? I know Return of the Rat is, but I haven't made that purchase yet from the iTMS.

Yep, D-7 and Return of the Rat are both Wipers covers. Great overlooked punk rock band from the northwest in the late 70's.

And yes, Come as you Are is a direct lift of the Eighties riff.

Ready for some fat-assed drug-addled 70s California studio rock?

"Innertube" & "Theme From Boat Weirdos" - Joe Walsh, from "...But Seriously, Folks"

"Boat Weirdos" Fun Facts: Actually recorded not in Cali but on a boat in Florida, as the theme song for a failed American TV pilot of the same name, featuring the fictional activities of a small houseboat community on the Gulf of Mexico

Great band from St Louis. They play up here in Chicago all the time. Vastly underrated, in my opinion. I threw in some Riddle love on my latest WAB.

Love the way those 2 tunes blend into each other. Depsite the over-commericialization of Life's Been Good to Me So Far, that album is a gem. Not a bad tune on it. Over and Over, Indian Summer..oh yeah. Still wonder how they did the photos of ol'Joe in the pool. I think they're real and not manipulated, but how??

Hayseed: What up, fellow Chicagoan! I work in the Loop, and stay out in The Land Beyond O'Hare...

Eugene: word. "Boat Weirdos" was the B-side of the "Life's Been Good" 7" I got as a kid - never really perused the rest of the album until recently.

Melwas: Specials! Ghost Town! Cool tune - and one of my very first MTV experiences. That, and Pat Benetar... oh, to be 14 again...

Song du jour: "Swing For Life" - Yo La Tengo, from "May I Sing With Me"

Died Pretty-Mirror Blues Pt1. Croz, and anybody else...know anything about them? I just happened to listen to Janus' 1st mix, and this song really grabbed me. Has that "early" sound, kinda Electric Prunes, Animals,Love, and a lot of their own originality. LUV it!

What CD by them do you recommend?

Today is a Prefab Sprout three-fer: "Goodbye Lucille #1", "Moving The River", "Horsin' Around" from "Two Wheels Good" ("Steve McQueen" if yer in the UK)

Hayseed: I take the Metra in/out every day - still about 45 minutes each way, just about enough time to listen to a full album. Been doing it for almost four years now, so I'm pretty burnt on my own collection, and constantly have to borrow stuff...
