I saw the Toadies and Spacehog open up for the Red Hots when Navarro was jammin with the Peppers a while ago.
The Toadies were the best of the night imo!
Everyone was great though... I know a bunch of you hate the Red Hots - or hate whatever they stand for in modern music - but, Navarro has always blown my head when he plays. And the Peppers will always have a little place in my heart for their first 3 albums.

Rocket - I think everything Mother's Milk and earlier - especially the Party Plan - is great. And they do some great covers, too. They just got so "Radio Friendly" and lost their edge with BSSM. I love their cover of Search and Destroy.

My favorite Chili Peppers album is One Hot Minute, because of the Navarro factor. I like Frusciante's solo stuff, but don't like what he's done n RHCP lately, and Flea's best work in years is on a Mars Volta album, not RHCP.

I was giddy as a school boy when the Toadies put out Hell Below/Stars Above after such a long hiatus. Their not complicated, just good.

Today it's the bootleg of the Halloween appearance of Shellac with David Yow from the Jesus Lizard performing as the Sex Pistols in Chicago.

I've never heard Frusciante's solo stuff either... but, I agree that his stuff with RHCP lately has been extremely boooooooring... zzzzzzzzzzzz.........
Does anyone know if RHCP still don't play anything off One Hot Minute when they tour?

Amsterdam - The Journey

After five years, one of my favourite bands released their debut single in the UK. It was great to see it sitting proudly in the likes of HMV and virgin. They've survived through touring and selling their cds through the internet only, despite being voted by the NME as the years best unsigned act back in 99.

Flea and Frusciante are both on the first Mars Volta LP, and possibly the new one, not sure. There've been rumors that Frusciante and Volta guitarist Omar Rodriguez were/are dating. Frusciante has put out 6 solo albums in the last year.

The first time I heard Sultans of Swing, my jaw dropped. I had never heard finer guitar licks. ONe of my colleagues who was a terrible drummer I used to jam with (I was equally terrible on guitar), but super nice guy asked me if I had ever head a band called Dire Straits. We were both enthralled. Everybody was talking about the song...and the rest is, well, er..history.

On this morning's commute, my iPod sang to me:

"Knee Deep and Down" by The Rain Band off Weekend at Burnies: Volume 2 - Rocket
"Light Up My Life" by Six By Seven off Weekend at Burnies: Volume 2 - Crozary
"Rockin' the Suburbs" by Ben Folds off Weekend at Burnies: Rocket - B.K. Rocks
"Soon" by My Bloody Valentine of Loveless (And Trik's recent WAB)
"Keep on Breathing" by The Delgados off Weekend at Burnies: Volume 3.2 - Moenkopi
"I Promise Not to Be an Asshole" by Arcwelder off Weekend at Burnies: Volume 22/7 - Neon from Candlelight

I love my iPod.

"It's Over" by Fire Theft off Weekend at Burnies: Volume 2 - Rocket starts the commute home.

The WAB group is great! Thanks guys!

I suffer from iPod envy...

Melwas - on Jan 12 "hfj" from the forum wrote this: "Yeesterday?@I bought Mercury Rev's new album. This is foregoing released in?@Japan, and the 1st song "Secret Of a Song" this is great. I've been waiting for song like this one. Mercury Rev, they are alway great for me."

Today for me...
Dandy Warhols - "Be-In"
off - Come Down

I'm trying to decide which Warhols CD I want next... (the only one I have is Come Down.)
Do you know which album "Lou Weed" is on? I scored that track and love it.

I've been thinking about getting one of those new shufflepod sticks meself boomboom. I'm not sure how much I'd use it though. I have an Ipaq handheld now with 3 512 Meg SD chips and I usually just push some music down to those to listen to while I'm cutting grass/doing yardwork. Got a 14 disk changer in the car for the commute to work so I know I won't be using it there. I just wish I could easily tell what I'm listening to (thats the main reason for my slooow/nonexistant feedback for the WAB list).

After reading back over that... what the hell am I complaining for? I guess my lazy ass should sit down and actually read the track listing.

Carry on.

rocket - it's on the Dandys Rule OK album.

13 tales is very guitar riff driven and good for going quite mad to. Dandys Rule OK is great to just sit, chill and be alone. Of course that's just my opinion.

Today's fav. song is "IOU Love" by Six by Seven

that's BSS's new single right? Have you heard Stars? I think it's one of the BSS member's, (possibly more) side project.

My song of the day is
"With Age" - Karate
indie lounge rock, reminds me of Sharks Keep Moving or The Sea and Cake

Whoa! The last two songs I've listened according to my playlist have been "I.O.U Love" and "Dirty Blue Balloons.." Seriously.

Sheesh. Today I've listened to Sciflyer's 'Fair Weather Kharma' album three times. The Swervie influence on is definitely apparent with these guys, they just never rock out. Picked a nice band name too ..

Even wearing my Syd Barrett t-shirt today!

My song of today is... Hendrix - Castles Made of Sand

and i'm in a big Dark Side of the Moon listening mood.

so add Brain Damage and Eclipse to the list of today's favourites!

On boomer's commute this morning, his brightly sleeved 4G 40Gb iPod proclaimed thusly:

Gravity Eyelids - Porcupine Tree - Croz vol3
Top Pocket Man - Chavez - Neon From Candlelight vol 22/7
Hype - Headswim - Rocket vol2
Fade Out/In - Paloalto - Rocket vol2
Crackbabies - Urge Overkill - Boomer vol3

Cue'd up for the trip home: Rise - Doves - Rocket vol2

Croz - that Porcupine Tree is amazing! After hearing the first couple of minutes, I was all set for a nice quiet ride on the train (I had to do some birthday shopping for the wife this AM, so I was late). Then BAM! I had forgotten about this gem. Great song. Thanks, man.

I havent posted here for a while but will fill you in on whats been getting me going:

Off MIX 2003 from Rocketchops
Trail Of Dead - Another Morning Stoner
Sparklehorse - King Of Nails
Moose - Can't Get Enough Of You..... a marvellous 3 in a row
Idlewild - Little Discourage
South - All Or Nothing
The Kings Of Convenience - Failure - I really enjoyed this relisten Rocket - Onya dude!

6 By 7 - So Close and the rest of The Way I Feel Today - That track reminds me of The Church big time...
Billy Bragg - Back To Basics - nothing better than whistling along to the brass and having a good old sing/yell with the poorly done accent to Billy.
Deviant - The first track at least Moen. It gets a bit bland after that for me but, hey they have talent.

Boomerchanter - We have to thank Jeronimofo for the Porcupine Tree exposure. Both Light Bulb Sun and In Absentia are deluxe hey! I know Eugene thought the change in that track sucked but i liked it also.

I gotta get me one of those ipod buggas aswell.
