The Wipers - Romeo

From the Pacific Northwest featuring coincidentally a blonde left handed guitar/singer, this is the band that Cobain wanted to be in. Very overlooked even by first gen punk rock afficianatos. Go buy the box set.

inergaloper - I know Nirvana covered D7 (on the Hoarmoning EP), do you have "Return of the Rat?" I'd love to hear the originals of both, too.

Moen, im coming around to your blend of mellower guitar + voice stuff at the moment.

At first listen Adam's Duress is my fave today but i have heard it before. Others will follow no doubt. Cheers man. My own work is not it the same country let alone ball park. But i am enjoying the guitar.

My favourite song today is...

Midnight in Moscow by the Chris Barber band! (or it might be by Kenny Ball, I can't remember :/)

I've got really into my trad jazz of late and this song just rocks.

Edit: In fact i'm sure it's Kenny Ball now...

I just dialed 'em up, and there was a review of a live gig in LA. Apparently, the folks were lined up to see them, and the guy who wrote the article was saying that it was worth the wait, and that they were excellent.

Swervedriver came through last night with "Kill The Superheros". I was on my way home from my route and popped that sucker in. What a great idea.

Yes Eugene, that other 78 Saab tune was great as well.

Jeronimo - I laugh every damn time I read your quote! = "Caution: don't pee in your wetty."

BTW - anyone ever heard of Seachange? Just got their CD - Lay of the Land. It's pretty good!
I also just bought:
Medium 21
a Serafin EP with the song "One More Way" on it
Brian Jonestown Massacre - Tepid Peppermint Wonderland: A Retrospective

I'm still waiting for Terra Diablo and the Statistics to be delivered - maybe tonight? - can't wait!

"Watch Your Step" - Elvis Costello & the Attractions, from "Trust"

Every time I hear this, it hits home...

"Watch who's knockin on your front door
Don't you know that they're watchin
Whaddya waitin for
Think you're young and original
get out before
They get to watch your step"

And I gotta say, lots of fun stuff goin on the site here lately - with no computer at home, I feel so left out!

That mac mini is cool jamesg - I hadn't seen that yet...

and the new ipod - that's a pretty descent amount of storage for the price. Better than an ordinary walkman for sure! You'd just have to rotate your music a bit more that with the larger ipod...

I still think the low-end iMac G5 is a much better deal. And I wouldn't be able to deal with my iPod without the screen! I dump all your Burnies into a playlist and hop on the train - I yank my iPod out of my bag every other song to figure out the artist, name and burnie-ist. I think the minimac will sell well, but I think unless you have a monitor and keyboard and mouse, there are better deals to be had. The minimac has 2 year old technology. For music, DVDs, internet, email it's great, but if you want to do anything requiring some horsepower, the G5 is the way to go.

And I think Apple should have "invested" $100 in each minimac and sold 10 million at $399, put a cool billion of their cash-stash to good use. They'll still sell 2 million at $499, though. Alright- I'm gonna get offa da soapbox now.

Aw shit, that hurt. That's the main reason I haven't bought anything - I'm totally hung up on buying something and having it become immediately obsolete. Prolly the reason most of my clothing is thrift finds and hand-me-downs.

I'm coming to the conclusion that a mini and a DSL or cable connection would work now and into the future for basic daily shit. Boomer, your Burnies/iPod/train experience is what I'm looking to hook into - I have a 45-55 minute train commute (one way) myself. Another machine will just have to come later as a dedicated music production station.

Song du jour: "Careful", by The Railway Children - from their "Brighter" EP I bought years ago solely because it was on Factory Records (New Order's old label). "Brighter" and "History Burns" are pretty cool, too... I just checked for a discography, and didn't realize they've been around... I wonder what their current stuff sounds like...

See? See why I need a computer at home?

drmcd - I've got the 40 GB iPod with 17 GB of music (about 4000 songs). I further justify its existence (and relatively high price) by using it as a backup drive (about 15 GB worth).

I've gotten over my initial bad feelings over the mini. It's converted 2 coworkers who already have monitors, keyboards and mice. I volunteered to upgrade the RAM myself to save them some cash. While the speed and processor are "old tech", it's like the pot calling the kettle black - my computer is much slower. My words wouldn't come out of my head any faster on a 20 GHz machine anyway...

Sooo. If you've already got a monitor and USB keyboard and mouse, go for it.
