I appreciate that its not everyone's cup of tea, but I have to say I quite like the new Van Halen song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WfQ-hV3WtA&ob=av2e

I like it much better without watching the video. But I think they sound pretty good, though I miss Michael Anthony's backing vocals. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Reminds me of the old man and lady in the 'Demolition' episode of The Young Ones hudled by a light globe trying to get warm:

Crap I forgot all about the Dead Electric release. Going to have to buy that today for sure. I'm still mulling over the new VH tune, its definitely got the right noise going on. I hope they hold up for the tour, not in my neck of the woods until Feb.

Today for me:

awesome Zed - I've been loving both tracks Nada Surf pre-released. I really want the new album. I was going to get it but, then the 2011 Get Up Kids edged it out when I was pulling the trigger. (still waiting to Get the Get Up Kids in the mail.) Check out the samples - being a Kansas City band, I always felt a bit obligated to support them. But, they had been a bit pop light for what I am usually wanting to listen to. This new album sounds like their best by FAR.

After 3 listens - I can definitely say that I love the newest Get Up Kids album!

Hey Croz - thanks for asking... things have been sloooow concerning Blueshift. The studio has been "closed" since October - so... we haven't been recording. The rest of us have still been getting together at least once a week - even if it's just for some acoustic jammin' - and that's always creative and fun. When we get back in the studio we should have a few new songs that we can bust out pretty quickly. The thing is - we write different songs on our acoustics than we write on our electrics. We had a couple electric songs in the works that I was stoked about - but, I worry the fire will be gone and parts will be forgotten when we get back in the studio after the long pause. Time will tell.
did you get our band camp song? - I had probably already sent that one to ya... hit the link in my sig. if you haven't.

Whoa that's a cruisy number!

Blueshift - Swamp Ass.

Speaking of which, have you guys seen that new pastime where ppl float down rivers and stop to drink and do crazy shit along the way? An Aussie just died doin it and made the news... Ill try find a link..

oh wow, watch for the injury half way through.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8huB-21TB3U And apparently they take waddies of drugs as well as the bad whiskey and beer. Psycho!

Remove the fucked up touristy stuff and add Blueshift playing on the bank with some meat grilling and a game of Goon of Fortune with the ladies and it could be my idea of nirvana!

awesome Croz...

crazy video - damn that head injury is disgusting!

A guy that lived across the street from me in college broke his neck jumping off a rock on a float trip. I guess we're lucky nothing bad ever happened in our group - we used to party so hard down the river.

I have to mention that having alligators or crocs around would change my float trip attitude for sure! Around where I live we only have an occasional copperhead snake or water moccasin...

Push - East Ash

Someone put this on a WAB a while back and I have been trying to track down the album forever. Finally got my grubby little mitts on it last night. They make me think of what a Pixies/Jesus Lizard lovechild would sound like. Well, at least, Push does.

Hey rocket, how would compare the audio quality of casette to vinyl to digital? Your post made realize I've never listened to a casette before...

wow - that's crazy! I could ramble on and on comparing the three...
long story short - cassettes were and are kind of a pain. Rewinding and fast forwarding trying to find a song... leave 'em in a hot car and they get all jacked up...
I do like the concept of A sides and B sides though - and it seems as though a lot of bands that have never released anything on vinyl or tape don't pay much attention to that order I grew up with. I remember always preferring the b-Side tracks because they would be more obscure... and a mix tape from a friend was cool - talk about committing to a project!
My only problem is that a huge portion of my collection is on cassette or dubbed cassette! I've been trying to get digital copies of everything but, it's taking forever. And there is so much new stuff I want to buy that buying old stuff for a second time is a drag... but, I've done it many times.

Funny you mentioned that cause for me it was backwards. When I bought music it was strictly digital, then I discovered vinyl, I think something about it just sounds better. I bought the vinyl releases of every Swervedriver CD I had. I must have spent about $200 on just Swervedriver alone, because of ridiculous prices on eBay. So I guess I shouldn't consider casette then?

Btw, anyone willing to sell their Mezcal Head LP for a reasonable price?

I got a Creation copy of the Mezcal LP for about 30 last year. I'd seen them going for much more so was quite pleased with that. Sorry, I'm not selling.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - 'Take It' off Automatic

Been listening to whole album which have not done before, but this one out of the tunes I haven't heard before was awesome. Like how some of their songs disintergrate at the endings into pre-programmed 'rigid' hi-hat with scrawling, unruly, screeching guitars - sweet and simple contrast.

no - I haven't whitewatersky. Thanks for the link.

I can hear some similarities - the new Get Up Kids is the only one I like actually - I haven't heard all of their earlier disks but, the others that I have heard are a little too pop rock for me...

I highly recommend the new one.
