Thanks for the tip Rocket. Checked out "The Casket Lottery", and it sounds pretty good. For some reason it reminded me of this one record from a while back...."American Football" I had totally forgotten about this one, and you jogged the memory.

Here's a link: http://www.myspace.com/amfootball

As for The Clientele, man they are really good, great song writing, chord changes etc.

seriously - I've gotten so many great band suggestions from this thread - it's unreal!

btw - just checked out The Demon Parade (referenced in the Tone Deaf article that brad posted) - and they sound really awesome.

I'm also waiting for a Laurels release - holding my breath even!

Whitewater, that's too funny ! They were playing this track in the grocery store the other day, and I went home and downloaded the "best of". Good song writers actually. Also made me think of the Hoodoo Gurus from the same era, so I picked up Stone Age Romeos and Mars Needs Guitars for some more nostalgia. Imagine you remember those guys well. Might have to round it out with the first two Alarm records, maybe some Outfield ? !

yeah, All You Zombies came on the radio here y'day arvo, and it was I spose the fave song of the day...

tho they were playing Cold Chisel's FOREVER NOW earlier on, which I love more, but for "WOW" Hooters won.

YEah, saw the Gurus a few times back late 80s/90s. cool band live. they were a true hilight of my 80s gigs (KISS in 1980 was the best obviously!).
saw Gurus at the Newcastle Workers Club on the Magnum Cum Louder tour. fuckin AWESOME !
great album, with amazing songs like Come Anytime, Axegrinder etc....

it was funny to see those dudes around town occasionally (when I lived in Sydney - Port Macquarie now)

they are legends of the pop rock song, i gotta say.

Out of the 3 I'd have to take Chisel I reckon. Living in a mining town in the 80s will do that to ya.

Ive listened to Hoodoo Gurus more since being on these boards than ever hand though. They are a very decent bunch.

I was listening to a talk back station the other day and they have an interesting show where they go back and look at an old lp. It was Skyhooks - Living In The 70s - It was real interesting. I was 3 when it came out but realized that I knew most of the tracks. I couldn't find an original clip of You Just Like Me Coz Im Good In Bed, complete with the make up (Which was pretty risque back then, not to mention the title of this track. It was the first track the Triple J ever played they said!

Awesome...the Gurus used to come to Winnipeg a lot and I saw them many times when I was a kid. I remember them being fascinated with their decent sized fan base out there, and they were really friendly. One time they played in the humid heat of summer and just ripped all night, no shirts, faster tempo, was amazing.

Continuing with the Oz theme, a great Bon Scott cover; If You Want Blood, Mark Kozelec

RINGO DEATHSTARR

I saw them support Adam just before Christmas and was massively impressed. I bought their CD "Sparkler" from Japan and its been on constant rotation.

Their LP "Colour Trip" arrived today. I'm halfway through it as we speak and I'm not dissapointed.

They wear their influences on their sleeves but so what? They're good influences, they do it well and they have good songs. I can see I won't be listening to much else for a while.

I think there are a lot of people here who will like this.

nice...
man - I need to listen to a little Stoneage Romeos! it was always my favorite...
and ha ha - I didn't even know what you were talking about at first whitewater! - but, I cheated and listened to the iTunes clip - and was suddenly transported to a time where I remembered hearing it - there was the smell of hairspray and dangling earrings everywhere! Just jokin' - I think I actually remember thinking the song was pretty good - but, never ventured beyond that track - and And We Danced! They kind of remind me of The Plimsols (except not quite as rockin'!) - remember A Million Miles Away?

Today...
The Demon Parade - "Afterworld"

Yeah, Mark is amazing. Jaymo got me interested in him many years ago, when he put a SunKilMoon track on a WAB comp. Have you heard Tiny Cities, his version of Modest Mouse tunes? The guy is really in a complete other zone. I bought his book "Nights of Passed Over"; it has lyrics, and explanations of his songwriting process.

I just saw Ringo Deathstarr live for the second time. I knew their songs this time around. They are Sonic Youth circa 1989 (at least they're how I wish Sonic Youth circa 1989 sounded and probably did, I don't know I was seven). Will be seeing them again in a fortnight, but I don't see my appreciation diminishing.
