what a top nite, eh chris? (we worked out you and i were standing right near each other - front right iirc). i think 3 of my favourite shows ever have been at dingwalls. the venue is very conducive to a top evening.... there was the swd one, a j mascis acoustic show, and also evan dando played an acoustic show there with ben kweller and ben lee. i was smashed at the last one, with some great mates, he was very funny and good.

I have Killing Some Dead Time by Libido. I remember really liking it but, it's been a loooong time since I've listened to it - I'll have to take it into work tomorrow! Let me know if you're in need...

on a side note - today I listened to an old mix I made
so...
The Police - "Miss Grandenko"
off - Synchronicity

totally a bad ass song!

on the subject of the police rocket, have you seen the dvd 'everybody stares'? it's a edited collection of stuart copeland's super 8 films. he bought a camera with the first money that he made from the band, and captured their first (very hectic and shoestring budgeted) tour of the US... they are just starting to get known, and by the end of the tour have had their first hits. it's brilliantly and very dryly narrated by stuart, and includes the classic comment along the lines of 'and some of us were obviously acting very childishly' which accompanies footage of stuart hitting a snare drum which had the words 'sting is a c**t' written on it.

it's a fascinating document of a new band about to become the biggest in the world and i can't recommend it enough.

no way - that sounds totally bad ass!
I will check that out for sure - thanks for the tip, roscoe.

plowd through the CD's today! Started off with the first Vines disk - then, went to my Libido disk that I brought in thanks to you guys - it was a great listen! I didn't remember them having such a Posies feel... so, that inspired me to listen to both Frosting on the Beater and Success. Damn I love those disks. The last CD of the day was Happy Jack by the Who. good times...

hi whitewatersky. it's been out for a couple of years now. i remember watching it at xmas with my old man, who loved it. the main thing i love about it is that you get to see them before they were big. they stay in shitty motels, travel round in a beaten up van, do in-stores and small, badly attended gigs. all this goes on while you know they are about to be the biggest band in the world. priceless stuff.

andy summers' autobiography is worth a read if you're a fan too. very in depth, and perhaps not recommended unless you're a fan though.

Slash's latest - Track 7 "Gotten" stands out today - features Adam Levine from Maroon 5; soulful lament coupled with massive ringing riff! Really this whole album is choc full of great tones. Great variety of vocalists, solos to get your tear ducts working, riffs that the chiropractor will love (or hate). Put aside any preconceptions, play it loud and you'll smile :)

Bike it, you'll like it

Roscoe, concur.

Today, Cocktails - Hot Leg

This is Justin's new band. Still digesting. Not as good as the Darkness, for now. However, you have to love a band that uses a chorus like "Cooooooooooock. Cock, cock, cock, cocktails!"

Awesome song.

"Yesterday Has Gone Forever" has been blowing me away - favorite song of the YEAR!! I have to try to control myself or I'll have listened to it like 300 times before I ever get to hear the rest of the disk!

but, that song inspired me to re-purchase Bandwagonesque since all I had was a cassette tape. I still really love that disk!
So today...

right on dudes

I wonder what the newest Teenage Fanclub will sound like? As I recall - no other TF album compared, for me, to Bandwagonesque - seems like they got too slick and predictable. I should find my other TF disk and compare to see if I still have that same opinion...

Well... I just bought the new Doves disk. I'm not a fan of "Best Of" compilations because they usually, for the most part, are made up of my least favorite tracks by the band. But, that Andalucia song sounds really cool - and I think some of the other B-Sides will be new for me too. Plus, iTunes is charging 1.29 per track if you cherry pick 'em... kinda sucks...

"Motorway" is my song of the day. Damn that electric is so bad ass when it kicks in!

Rocketc,

I am playing your mp3 disc in class before and after the kids attend. I am listening to it in artist alphabetical order and am up to the Cs so far. Loved to hear The Beta Band again. Been a long time. Lots of others I like and there is a lot of swervy sounds amongst them. Nice to have some WAB goodness once more..

so dudes - I made a "favorites" compilation featuring Adam - and I've been listening to it almost non-stop since I made it. I love listening through the albums proper - but, I just kind of felt like making a new comp since I had just gotten my hands on the incredible "Yesterday Has Gone Forever". That song has been possessing me to do all kinds of things! RE-buy Teenage Fanclub's "Bandwagonesque", make a new AF comp., and write a new tune myself. It rocks.

So - here is the comp. - I recommend making the exact same playlist and listening to it 24-7.

1. Yesterday Has Gone Forever - Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody I Could Sleep For A Thousand Years
2. Shining Somewhere - Adam Franklin Bolts Of Melody
3. No Direction - Magnetic Morning A.M.
4. Seize The Day - Adam Franklin Bolts Of Melody
5. Surge - Adam Franklin Spent Bullets
6. Motorway - Magnetic Morning A.M.
7. Valentine Number One - Toshack Highway Toshack Highway
8. Cold War Kids - The Setting Suns The Setting Suns EP
9. Spring Unseen - Magnetic Morning A.M.
10. ( She's Got) Celestial Navigation - Toshack Highway Toshack Highway Vs. Sianspheric
11. Teardrops Keep Fallin' Out My Head - Adam Franklin Spent Bullets
12. The Streets That Spin Off - Toshack Highway Toshack Highway Vs. Sianspheric - Magnetic Morning / Aspirin Age
13. The Way Love Used to Be - The Setting Suns The Setting Suns EP
14. At A Crossroads, Passive - Magnetic Morning A.M.
15. Morning Rain - Adam Franklin Bolts Of Melody
16. Champs - Adam Franklin Spent Bullets
17. Mary Jane aka You Live And Then You Die (Demo 2004) - Toshack Highway Everyday, Rock'n'Roll Is Saving My Life Vol. 2
18. I Thought I Saw My Ship A-Coming - Toshack Highway Toshack Highway
19. Syd's Eyes - Adam Franklin Bolts Of Melody
20. Cannery Row - Toshack Highway Toshack Highway Vs. Sianspheric - Magnetic Morning / Aspirin Age
21. Sundown - Adam Franklin Bolts Of Melody
22. Autumn Leaf - Adam Franklin Spent Bullets
23. Toshackinblack - Toshack Highway Toshack Highway
24. Shine A Light - Toshack Highway
25. Big Sur - Adam Franklin Spent Bullets
26. And I Wonder - Magnetic Morning A.M.

yeah dude - I thought I stuck a note in your package... but, basically after you put your disk in and iTunes shows you the play list - just hit the "tab" right above the number column and that will instatnely make it play by track number instead of alphabetically.
But, it's no big deal buddy - just a suggestion.

rocked with Silverson Pickups and the latest Highdials today.

So... my design department was making a mix CD today. Each of us got to pick a track to go on the mix. I ended up deciding on "The Other Jesus". All in all - It was a close call between many AF and SWD tracks - but, my mood wuuuz what it was. The guitar in The Other Jesus is just insane - and the way it builds up towards the end is so freakin' awesome! Plus, I like the concept and the words.
There were Film School and Darker My Love contenders too... but, they were no match!

good times...
