I picked up The Besnard Lakes, after seeing a blog calling it one of Adam's favorites of the year. It's tough for an album to crack my top 10 of the year so late in the game, but they might have done it. What an incredible album.

New QOTSA is great. The band has taken a different direction since Nick was dismissed but theyre keeping it interesting. If you think they lack energy, listen to The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died.
rocket Posted - 12/14/2007 : 5:52:24 PM

that's cool dudes...
(it didn't make my top 07 list either)
personally - I'm still down with the energy of QOTSA - and don't get me wrong cuz I'm a guitar freak but, I think what has really kept my interest is that I'm diggin' his vocal style more than ever.

Lullabies & Vulgaris lack energy from Oliveri's absence, just not the same band to me anymore...

Man, I like that LP, and I was jazzed when it came out, I think I just kind of quickly forgot about it. They haven't been the same for me since Oliveri left.

Not only the info on Tyondai Braxton being Toni's little bro, but one of the guitarist was from Don Caballero and you also have the giant known as John Stanier from Helmet, Tomahawk fame on drums...
moenkopi46_2 Posted - 12/08/2007 : 6:17:58 PM
Crap! I forgot Blonde Redhead ... and The New Pornographers ... and what about Black Moth Super Rainbow, or The Octupus Project. They both put out really fun albums.

I've had "Leyendecker" stuck in my head, for the last three days. I like that song, but it could go away for awhile.

I didn't know how experienced Battles were until I read up on them a little. I think it's rather strange that the vocals are done by Toni Braxton's brother.

meon, hahahaha, possessed squirrels!!! hehehe, that gave me a big smile and a whole lotta chuckle

Damn - everything I think is 07 actually turns out to be 06! The Life and Times, Darker My Love, Blackstrap, Roman Numerals...

07:
Adam Franklin - Bolts of Melody
The Cobbs - Sing the Deathcapades
Blonde Redhead - 23
Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
The Crash that Took Me - Orchestrated Kaleidoscopes
Interpol
Pinback - Autumn of the Seraphs
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice
Rogue Wave - Asleep at Heaven's Gate
The Setting Suns
Terra Diablo - Deluge Songs

I just bought it yesterday - but, I can say for certain that it needs to join my list:
Magnet School - Tonight We Drink... Tomorrow We Battle the Evil At Hand
(these are the guys that did a nice cover of "Never Loose That Feeling")

Battles - Mirrored

Holy shit, darshun. I hadn't heard of it 'til your list. A couple tracks took me a few listens to wrap my head around, and I have no idea what's going on in the fucking lyric department, but overall that album kicks ass! Good choice.

The vocals sound like fucking possessed squirrels.
I'm playing the whole thing on my radio show this weekend.

Brooks-

I highly recommend Maserati's latest, El ten eleven's latest, and Battles latest... those are damn good instrumental albums... altho, battles has "experimental" vocals (with lots of cool f/x)...

I just spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure out what new music I bought in 2007, and realized........ I bought shit! I picked up countless reissues or older CDs / vinyl (a big year for vinyl since I just got a turn table), but new music .... squat! How lame?

So hear is a list of all 7 CDs I bought that were released in 2007, and are new music:

AF - Bolts of Melody, easily the best of the bunch

Setting Suns - iTunes EP, excellent, can't wait for the CD release!

The Warlocks - Heavy Deavy Skull Lover, gets better and better

British Sea Power - Krankenhaus? EP, love this band!

Dinosaur Jr - Beyond, awesome comeback album

Black Francis - Bluefinger, 1 or 2 good songs, then kinda boring, basically I aqgree w/ Loper. I had such high expectations...

Panda Bear - Person Pitch, impulse buy, so-so at best, didn'y really give it a chance I guess.

interloper Posted - 12/05/2007 : 5:15:42 PM
I was gonna go Bolts, but then I thought it was 06, and now I realize it was 07 and so, yeah. Bolts of Melody. I'm an idiot.
moenkopi46_2 Posted - 12/05/2007 : 3:53:59 PM
No "Bolts of Melody"? Is that legal on this forum? I'll put it on my list, along with:

Aereogramme - Why did they have to split up? They were getting better and better, and they were great to begin with.
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
Calla - Strength In Numbers
Dakota Suite - Waiting For the Dawn to Crawl Through and Take Away Your Life
Midnight Movies - Lion the Girl
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice
Pinback - Autumn of the Seraphs
Puscifer - V is for Vagina
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Rufus Wainwright - Release the Stars
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
UNKLE - War Stories
interloper Posted - 12/05/2007 : 05:01:57 AM
Harmonia - Live at Grissom 1974 (my fav of the year by far)
Wire - Read and Burn 3
Setting Suns - EP
Weedeater - God luck and Good Speed
Jesu - Conqueror
Neurosis - Given to the Rising
Pissed Jeans - Hope for Men
Whitehouse - Racket
Big Business - Here come the Waterworks
Oxbow - Narcotic Story
High on Fire - Death is this communion
Torche - In Return

That Trans Am Lp wasn't bad, but didn't make my list...and I never got to hear that new Dinosaur Jr. record. I heard it was good though.
